I bought one of these for my MIL, delivered yesterday...looks like a nice bit of kit, lovely screen. A few things I've noticed so far:

1. issue with the wifi...it is always automatically off on booting up meaning that you have to manually (Fn F1) turn it on every time. It's a bit of a pain, but something I'm sure the MIL will get used to.
2. The headphone socket is at the front of the laptop which is a bit of an annoyance if you want to use it as a desktop with external speakers. Why oh why didn't they put it at the back?!?
3. All of the 4 USB ports are on the left hand side of the machine - again why?!?
4. Comes with 60 days trial of MS Office 2007 and 90 days Norton

I'd say it's good value for the money.

I bought one of there for my 96 year old neighbour some time ago and was really annoyed by the wi-fi being off by default. I found a work around for this. Its a script that is added to Windows start-up folder that does the job of turning on the wi-fi for you after boot up. It works great.
I can't post a link right now, as I'm posting from my phone, but if you google Amilo 2735 wifi you'll find the solution, I think it was on the Fujitsu forum.

Doesn't the compaq in link below have better spec?

Okay it is a good price for what you get though two things to take note of:

1. the build quality is very poor. It feels like a toy.

2. the wifi button on the front is a nemesis. If that stops working your wi-fi will stop too. You'll have to open that up to fix it. I'm not aware of a way around this.

was it something like this?

Here is the solution for starting wireless on startup :

go START > run > notepad ENTER

write this in the notepad

Set WshShell = WScript.CreateObject("WScript.Shell")

Set oExec = WshShell.Exec("C:\Program Files\Launch Manager\WisWBSet.exe")

do while WshShell.AppActivate("Wireless Status Option")=False
WScript.Sleep 100
loop

WScript.Sleep 100

WshShell.sendkeys("{TAB}{TAB}{LEFT}~")

and save it as wifi.vbs

put the file wifi.vbs in the startup folder and this will do the joblukcool14

For the extra money I would go for the Lenovo, it has virtually the same chip (faster clock speed, less cache) larger hard drive, better battery life, and a HDMI port which makes linking to a LCD TV a doddle.
Well worth the extra £40, so much so I recommended it to a friend who bought it.

Not a bad laptop for the money we paid a little more for the one at work. The plastics are a bit hard and perhaps 'cheap' feeling my Acer does feel nicer :-) But it's ideal for moving about a lot as the hard plastics shouldn't get damaged so easily.

Fujitsu don't support XP on this laptop though so if you want rid of Vista you have to go in search of the drivers yourself although there is a forum (german I think it was..) which gives links to most of the stuff you will need.

Copes well enough with some of the older games too :-P

Gone up to £329 now. It's so annoying. I've been looking for a sub £300 2Gb laptop for my dad to mess around on, emailed my mum last night to ok it, went to buy it this morning and saw the price hike.

Any suggestions on a postcard to the usual address.......
