Just been looking for a cheap and preferably new laptop for simple home use and found this deal on Misco's site. Looks excellent value especially when the price is about the same as many refurb machines with only a few weeks warranty.
I would recommend a memory upgrade to 1 or 2 gig but checking on Crucial a 2 gig kit (e.g. 2 x 1gb) is only about £30.
Vista Home Basic is a bit pants but I have a spare XP licence anyway which I still prefer.
Other people bang on about how Celeron is OK for basic Office and web browsing but my old Dell has done everything even taking video from camera doing some basic editing and burning to DVD, although it does take a while!!

Pretty good for the price and as you say, another 2gb RAM is only £30 or so.

Celerons have moved on a lot in recent years.

By the way, you joined in Aug 2005 and this is your first post :) What have you being doing :)

How does it compare to Dells offering for £258 delivered? Dell Vostro 1000, AMD Sempron 3600+, 1Gb RAM 80gb HDD, vista basic or XP home?

Overall the Vostro 1000 is better specced (better CPU, more ram, better graphics chipset), although for some reason Dell are now shipping it with only a DVD/CD-WR combo drive, which will certainly affect sales.

Comes down to whether you want to burn DVD's or not. If you do, buy the FJ, if you don't, buy the Dell.

An alternative to the OP is this:

http://www.ebuyer.com/product/139119

It gives you 1024 Mb of RAM and an extra 40Gb of HD (120Gb total) for £279.95 delivered.
