It's an o.k. machine if you put Windows XP or Linux on it (or wait for Windows 7). Vista on this computer is for surfing the web and simple wordprocessing but not much more.

Why is this being voted cold? I've been searching for a brand-new entry level laptop for ages and this is the best price I've come across. If there are better options out there for around this price, people should post it.

celeron is pretty old. might as well get a nice netbook for this price.

because it wont run vista properly so you have to add in the cost of an XP licence

Sure, but can netbooks run simple desktop applications like Word? If not then it's not really suitable for me personally. I was under the impression that netbooks were designed for email and surfing the web.

Decent specs for the price, hot from me.

The CPU is Celeron M 533 MHz FSB, 1 MB of L2 cache @ 2 GHz.

A cheap laptop is a cheap laptop, you just have to match the person to the pc & running needs!
..this'd be ideal for my old aunty who just want's to email & browse the net (a little bit)
thanks!

Oh no, netbooks are full computers* and the processors they use are rather powerful, probably equal to the top of the range 4 years ago so they're quite capable of running the vast majority of programs, and more than up to the job of running a word processing program. (I don't know how word 2007 particularly would fair, but most of them come with OpenOffice).

*Well, the Celeron ULV/Atom/VIA ones anyway, the non-x86 ones really are a lot worse.

I can see why its not hot as spending a little more go a long way. But this machine will be workable with a little playing about. First I'd do a vlite vista install then run portable apps off a hard disk partition for my applications which covers just about all the software most people need.

But if £250 is your limit you don't have a lot of choice.

Don't forget 5% quidco

@ ALICOM007 and EndlessWaves, that's good to know...didn't realise you could install & run full desktop applications on netbooks.

Unfortunately money is a little tight right now so £250 - £260 is the max I can spend at present. Will add quidco to the title, thanks.
