Review

A superb ensemble cast falls in for action in Stanley Kubrick's brilliant saga about the Vietnam War and the dehumanizing process that turns people into trained killers. Joker, Animal Mother, Gomer, Eightball, Cowboy and more - all are plunged into a boot-camp hell pitbulled by a leatherlung D.I. who views the would-be devil dogs as grunts, maggots or something less. The action is savage, the story unsparing, the dialogue spiked with scathing humor. Full Metal Jacket, from its rigours of basic training to its nightmare of combat in Hue City, scores a cinematic direct hit.

I have heard the blu ray version isnt that good quality, is there any differnce between this and the "defintive edition"
#2
Yeah, this first BluRay release is pretty poor quality, probably not even as good as the DVD on a decent upscaler, best to get the remastered edition, which has a different (dark picture of a soldier in a jungle scene) cover, and is much better quality.
#3
Agree with mrt2 about the quality as heard it's not that great but the other version on blu ray is better quality
#4
Don't bother with this one, bad transfer. There is a Deluxe Edition which isn't a great transfer, but better than this. This edition should be deleted from sale IMO.

Be warned, Ive looked into buying this and it is worse than the DVD version. And isin the wrong intended aspect ratio apparently

Do you mean because its widescreen? i believe both release are 16X9 as that what people want nowadays with widescreen TV's. The original aspect ratios are 1.37:1 (as in fullscreen) as were most of kubricks films
