I popped into my Tesco Store on Edgington Way, Sidcup, Kent this afternoon actually after a few bottles of bubbly. I saw this offer of G.H Martel & Co. Champagne Brit Prestige (750ml) at £16.96 per bottle. I was shocked to see it also have 800 Tesco Points per bottle (=£8) which can be exchanged into £32 of Tesco Clubcard points.

Also there is the 5% discount if you buy in bottles of 6 so the effective price was £16.13 per bottle.

I got 6 bottles at £101.88 less £5.10 = £96.78

this will then give 4800 Tesco points worth £48 that will exchange into £192 Tesco ClubCard points.

Very nice, thank you Mr Tesco!!

This is supposed to be £26.98 ?

This is on the Tesco website at

http://www.tesco.com/wine/product/details/default.aspx?N=8133&id=262274274

£153.84 per case

Equivalent to £25.64 per bottle

Even more of a bargain!!

Unless i'm mistaken, and if so please be gentle, wouldn't this work out to be about 98p per bottle.

If you already have clubcard vouchers (100points = £1) then you could double these up to use against wine and spirits.

Therefore £8 of vouchers could be exchanged for £16 against wine (I know you have to do it in multiples of £5).

You then buy the champagne at £16.98 per bottle and get your original 800 points back, so the net cost would be 98p

Hope this makes sense.

Yes that is correct. You could use your already gained vouchers so as you say you can double up £8 to give you £16 requiring that you only need to pay 98pence

BUT....

for each bottle you buy you then get another 800points worth £8 or quadruplicate them at a later date to generate a £32 Tesco Clubcard amount.

Its a real no-brainer!! I shoul dhave bought more but then it may give me too much of a taste for the fizzy bubbles.....

I thought, when you say had 800 points you could only get £32 worth of vouchers for theme parks etc.

Am I right in thinking they couldnt be used against food?

I use mine all the time at Cafe Rouge restaurants regardless of amounts - just break them down into smaller denominations.

Food in a restaurant - deal vouchers @ 4x value (eg £10)
Food in Tesco - face value (eg £2.50)
Wine and a few other things in Tesco @2 x value (eg £5)

Using the points you have and doubling up for wine vouchers to pay would mean only 98p to end up with the same points (plus a few for the purchase).......except that this stuff is £26.98, not £16.98 at our tesco / online.

The person that posted below you is a legend.

With the similar beef in gravy episode, one man bought a few £100s worth, donated it to a homeless shelter and used the points for a return trip for two to New Zealand. Though do be slightly careful as Tesco reserves the right to block people for fair usage breaches. All major loopholes will go in the free weekly email.

The block of text above relates to thepearce - hope you dont mind,if you do tell me and I'll delete the post

Ha ha.....I've never seen that, and the descriptions a first :).

Actually it was a woman who collected for a New Zealand trip, mostly by trawling around lots of shops in the Midlands and buying what she could.

In my case, after an argument at the tills in Tesco I was told about the possibility of doing a special order. IIRC I ordered 1,200. (£750 ish) :-D

They were quite difficult to give away as a lot of shelters have limited freezer space.... in the end I was put in touch with someone from Portsmouth city council who takes out of date food from the supermarkets to various shelters etc.... and he had plenty of space. Met me with his van in Tesco car park and I took a bootful to Bognor as I'd promised to.

- As for this deal.....it seems to be limited to a particular store, possibly mispriced.
