Gaffer Tape @ Poundland £1.00

Never saw Gaffer tape there before. Those few of you who can survive in the wild with a small pack for weeks know cuts of duct tape wrapped around a knife handle fixes just about anything. Good handymen know this too. Those of you in film/TV/music industry know gaffer tape is even better. OK, Guerrilla Tape is best but costs a lot. Some advantages of Gaffer tape over duct tape:
* Even Stronger
* More Surface Grip
* Stays on Longer
* Comes off with Much Less Residue
* Can be Cut More precisely
* More Protection against Surges/Currents

Seems to be a lot of Poundland deals at the moment.

Am I a snob for saying I would never be seen dead even looking in the store from across a very wide road?

You can never have enough gaffer tape, especially at that price.

Very good price and why should we spend more of our money on products that are over inflated in price just so that the shops can make more money?

Even better photo though lol.

Use a lot of gaffer tape at work, if its the proper stuff (Duct) its fantastic but if its a cheap imitation you may as well use water and flour

Good deal! Have some heat! I paid £4 for a white one up the road? GOT to go to Poundshops

I bought some gaffer tape from Poundland (had to hold my nose while in there due to the stench of the plebs), and it really is useless stuff. It's like a very thin masking tape. Painted grey.

Yes you definatly are. Poundland do some great deals, things such as a TV out cable for the iPhone for a quid rather than £30 in the apple shop. If you would rather spend an extra £29 for a product rather than go in poundland then i pity the fool! :)
#13
the stuff at the pound shop is normally not a full size roll, your lucky if it is quarter of the size of a normal roll. But would be pleasantly surprised to be proved wrong.

Are you saying you're not sure if you paid £4 or asking us if you paid £4? Surely you'd know?

It's just the fact that I like to enjoy my shopping experiences. And I don't think shuffling round a sweaty store with benefit cheaters sounds like my idea of fun.

Absolute rubbish are you a Tory peer by any chance? X)

I used this tape to help hold fireworks to the stakes when I was doing a firework show, used plenty of it round each one about 4 times didn't have a single problem nor would I expect to, ok it's NOT as thick as Duck tape (yes the brand it is called Duck and has a picture of one on it) but it's not £6 a roll from B+Q or Homebase either

Hot thanks OP and you others being snobby about £land, 99p land aka Whistlestop or even Mr 50p you keep shopping elsewhere and leave the bargains to the rest of us.

Nice one!!

You need to get out more and a lot of shoppers like us will be laughing at you as you pay much more for the same thing. Some poundshops are now airconditioned!

Duck tape is actually it's original name (now a brand) as it was developed to be sturdy waterproof tape for quick repairs in WW2 (water off a ducks back).

Learnt that watching Mythbusters.

I had some gaffer tape from pound land and it was rubbish, it's false economy it just woudln't stick to anything - anyone that's used the proper stuff will know it normally sticks to everything,

So can't really vote hot - the stuff I bought wasn't worth £1
#33
You know the saying "Buy Cheap..Buy Twice" ..Having said that.Does anyone know when there sale starts..haha
#34
I'd like to make a comment on the item rather than join in the debate about the type of people that go into Poundland or post on here please.

This stuff is rubbish! Like most of the DIY related things in there it is false economy - that's only my opinion though. This and the insulation tape isn't sticky, the tools are woefully poor and screws, drill bits, nails - anything that should be hard steel - seem to made out of very poor quality, soft metal.
I go in Poundland when I'm in town for things for the kids though - pencils, colouring books, books etc. The tape, tools and screws were bought for an emergency repair on the car one day - ended up at Asda getting some cheap Draper stuff!

And to anyone who wants to classify Poundland shoppers as benefit scroungers - I'm a higher rate tax payer ;-)
#35
decent gaffa tape usually costs a bit more than a pound - so I'd be suspicious

Quite a lot of hostility guys - I'm only airing my views, geez!I guess that was a long queue at the doll office this morning? oO
Do they dole out toy figurines for children at the doll office?

Yes, but you need to put something absorbent in their mouth. I find that cotton wool or and old rag stops them drooling and ruining the adhesive quality of the tape ;)oO8)

my wife used to moan about all the crap i bought from poundland, but i got one roll of this and that shut the bitch up

I agree with (almost) all the comments on here to some degree! Unfortunately, chavs (I'm using that to encompass any and all scumbags) are everywhere these days. Personally, I think the pound shops (and Wilkinsons, Home Bargains, etc) are great for opportunistic bargain shopping. True, some of the stuff they sell is, to be blunt, crap, but even the crap stuff has its place if you KNOW it's crap, but it's still fit for the purpose you intend to you use it for. Really cheap tools, for example, are definitely crap... but, if you only need a pack of screws to mount a coat hook, they'll be fine. Likewise, if you'll only ever be using that 99p screwdriver to change plugs, that'll be fine too.

I'm a great believer in trying the cheap stuff once... if you've tried it and it's crap, at least you can say you tried rather than dismissing something out of hand just because it's cheap. Much of the cheap stuff is absolutely fine. Oh, except aftershave... I bought (against my better judgment) some 99p aftershave the other day (liked the smell), but no matter how much you spray on your face, it smells of NOTHING after about 10 minutes! The idea was to use a cheapo aftershave (that still smells decent) for everyday use and reserve my better stuff (Armani Black Code, Boss, 212, etc) for nights out and special occasions. That plan hasn't worked though and is one occasion where cheap is a false economy.

Long live the pound shops (bet they're loving the economic downturn!)
