I had one of these bought from Currys for £60, didn't have much luck. Worked the first couple of goes but after a while it started dripping hideously every time it boiled the water, to the point at which there was simply no water left in the boiler for a double espresso. Bit irritating, looked pretty though.
This was the best espresso machine sub £200 and now for 86.50 wow.

Gaggia machines make great coffee but unfortunatly like most things Italian, they look fantastic but build quality and reliability are below average.

If you own a Fiat / Ferarri / Alfa then this is the coffee machine for you!

Which espresso machine would you choose, then instead for under £100?

2nd hand Gaggia Classic. Ignore the infantile comments about cars, the Classic is a 40yr old design that has been perfected over that peiod. Solidly built with loads of spares available should it break (better than throwing it away).

All coffee machines need regular descaling which is the primary cause of most problems. Bought mine off 'thatauctionsite' for a steal as non-working. Descaled it and it works a treat!

Agreed ... I had a Gaggia Synchrony "bean to cup" machine ... after just over 2 years (can't remember if it had a 1 or 2 year guarantee but in any case it no longer applied) it stopped working. Contacted Gaggia about getting it repaired and had to pay £110 for a "service and repair of one item". After hearing nothing for 3 or 4 weeks I contacted them to see what was happening and was told that they'd get the unit sent back to me asap. A few days later it arrived back and seemed to work - the report mention that they'd "reset a thermostat" (hmm, seemed not much for £110). 10 days later it stopped working in exactly the same way as before ... rang them up to tell them in my opinion the thermostat was the symptom and not the cause of the problem and I wanted it repaired properly ... but I got an answering machine explaining that Gaggia had gone into liquidation.

Anyway, this year I bought a Delonghi Magnifica (when it was 20% at Sainsbury's) and that's great. Seems to be much better built than the Gaggia and has things like "auto turn-off" and cleaning cycle on switching on and off that the Gaggia never did.

I think the comparison with Alfa-Romeo is probably justified ... as they say on Top Gear the Alfa is the one you want, the name, the history. the looks, etc ... but deep down you know that you're going to end up on the side of the road in the rain phoning for the tow truck.

I have this it makes great coffee, this is a great price for it

Although cheap enough, unless you know you can stomach filter coffee, it is ideal as a present for someone you don't really like! :whistling:

Filter machines are just a waste of good coffee... just make it in a jug and strain it and the same batch of coffee will taste far better, it just gets nothing worth drinking out of the grounds - the "Mellow Birds" equivalent for proper coffee! :-(

Both good Machines but better of with the Classic. Though all make great coffee. I've got a Classic and A Pure at home. Allways need a spare when one needs serviced
I got the Cubika from the Gaggia website over a year ago, it was a very similar offer as this one. I had to have 4 of them before it worked properly, but after that I have had no problems
Careful with the Cubika - check it out on Amazon first as the erviews were not all great - although granted most of the issue's were with the on/off button and would be covered by the warranty its still a hassle sending it back and forth and being a coffee fiend I hate not having my machine to hand - hence I have gone for the Evolution.... 2/3 week now - if anyone wants me to let them know what its like by all means drop my a PM and I will answer soon as it lands and I plug it in !!!
Link to the OPs deal of the Gaggia Evolution.....

Seems a good deal to me, even if it is a recon, as Gaggia must be one of the best coffee machines in the world.
I'm tempted by this 89 quid jobby...... dont know if it'll link but here goes...
