Gainward GeForce GTX 580 1536MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £239.99 @ Overclockers
This GTX 580 is custom cooled and *BRAND NEW* i.e. NOT OEM or a refurb. And this is the cheapest BRAND NEW GTX 580 I've seen so far in the UK, especially if you post on their forums, which means you'll get free postage (I think).
If I didn't swear to myself to wait for the next gen Kepler (GTX 780), I would be all over this deal.

Jump to unread Post a CommentIt's about time it's price got well under the HD7950, the last few weeks have seen some drops on the level or two below and it's filtering upwards.
Still going to wait to see what the GTX 660, GTX 670 SE and HD7930 are going to do and hoping AMD have some price cuts planned to make things interesting.

In case anyone wanted the free shipping deal:

I wouldn't hold my breath on any mid range GTX 600 series cards being released soon or being well priced, since retailers usually overcharge on all new GPUs for at least a month or two.

That's not going to help anyone for this deal though, it requires preparation. Worth signing up to get the account age started so you can worry about posts later.

At least 1 of the 3 planned cards would probably be out now if wasn't for the overstock on the 570. Nobody knows exactly what Nvidia are planning, but it's from a number of possibilities and most rumours are 3-8 weeks.
Retailer profiteering depends on supply and demand. This also isn't a top end card, it has to sit into an established and falling market. If it's true Nvidia are holding back, launch stocks could be high and a number of partners on board rapidly. So I'm hoping the new cards will spread quickly around the retailers. I'm also hoping AMD has it's price crash spoiler card ready to go whenever Nvidia announces.
Anyway, aren't you waiting on the GTX 700, that'll be a bit longer than the next 600's :p

Yes it will help. A mate of mine asked someone on there nicely and got free shipping. Other people did it differently but it's still worth mentioning if you're going to buy from there more than once or just want the best possible deal.

Reason why I said that is because the GK104 was supposed to be mid-range, which it's NOT; rather it's being sold as a top of the line GTX 680. Nvidia themselves said the yields are better than expected, as they should be for a mid range card and it is selling rather well too. Chances are, in order to release anything lower than the GTX 670, they'd probably need to design a new chip (i.e. GK106), which I don't think is viable for them as they are still waiting for AMD's answer to their REAL top end Kepler (GK100). And to top that, Nvidia's partners are clearly overstocked on last gen GPUs (by the time this changes it will probably already be Q3 2012) so...that's how I see it anyways.
I'm waiting for the full fat GK100/110 or whatever it's going to be, as the GTX 680 is far too gimped.

First off, the deal has expired.
Secondly, the 2 year warranty is with Gainward, as it is a retail boxed product.
Thirdly, this was the case about 4 years ago. They seem pretty good now, from the looks of things on the independent review sites -- read them and make up your own mind, and this goes for ANY retailer. As for them "fobbing you off", it also depends on how you speak to the customer service reps. Someone I know got "fobbed off" by Scan, who is supposed to be the best computer component retailer for several years running, while others seem generally OK with them. I've been lucky enough not to need to return anything for several years now, so I wouldn't know.
Until you actually deal with the customer service reps yourself, however, you cannot make that kind of judgement.
