The Nintendo GameCube Controller – Super Smash Bros. Edition is ideal for fans who grew up playing Super Smash Bros. Melee for the Nintendo GameCube system

So the connection is for the GameCube? Then you need to buy an adapter to use this control with a wii u?

Why didn't nintendo just make it for Wii U instead?

It would probably be just be another Wii U Pro controller that looks like a Gamecube controller.

So it's a gamepad for a 12-year old console that was discontinued in 2007. For £24.99.

Yeah, hot deal.

Bear in mind that you'll also need an Gamecube adapter to plug it into your console and those are pretty much sold out everywhere.

The adapter is currently selling for around £50 on Ebay:

Hopefully there will be another batch made soon!

Some of this wii U information in general is not clear to me. If I wanted to play upto four players on a Wii U can it be done without getting the GameCube controllers and the adapter?

Say for games like Mario Kart and Super Smash Bros. Can I just use Wii/Wii U controllers to play 4 player? do they have to be certain type of controller. Information is not clear to me.

I ain't got a Wii U yet. I have a wii and have the old controllers from that and nun chuck, I'm guessing this would work but not sure.

It's just another control option. Smash bros supports the following inputs:
Wii U Gamepad
Wii U Pro controller
Wii Mote
Wii Mote & nun chuck
Wii Mote and classic pad
Gamecube controller
3DS

Any combination of those can be used for 4 player.

I'm not 100% sure if this is the case for 8 player though.

Yes it can be played 4 player without an adaptor. You can use wii motes, gamepad, pro controller, or the GameCube style pads that plug into wii motes

Yes, these controllers are another option to play, I use my pro controllers and gamepad atm but you can use wii remotes too.

As several other people have mentioned you need the gamecube adapter to use this. My order from Amazon has just been cancelled saying they will not be getting any more in stock.
#10
I'd say this is a hot deal considering they're selling out and prices are sky rocketing.
#11
Why is the adaptors sold out so quickly? Are they meant to be limited or just due to high demands and low stock?

The latter.

Yeah, hot deal.

This is a traditional controller and normally the term "GamePad" refers to Wii U's controller with a screen that isn't really suitable for Smash unless there's no option for the user.

They heed to be wiimotes with motion plus. if you have the older non motion plus wiimotes you can purchase an add on that gives motion plus functionality.

Old nunchucks should work fine as far as i am aware..
