Hot but only if you are organised enough to cancel before your 3rd issue.

True, but is that not the same for any trial? How hard is it to set up a reminder on your mobile phone, or check your direct debits via online banking to cancel once payment has been taken?

Agree CB. I like these 3 for £1 offers and it only takes about 48 seconds to cancel a DD online

There seems to be ones cropping up in Imagine Publishing Magazines all the time as late, I will see about posting more of them.

Do you mean just cancel it with your bank? You don't even need to ring the mag?

As a rule of thumb, it is courteous to inform that you have cancelled the DD, but no you don't have to, and I have rarely done this on many trial cancellations. Just cancelled my DD online, some DDs I have had to phone my bank customer services to cancel (sometimes have to with multiple DDs to the same magazine publisher if cancellations are regular)

I always just cancel the DD on my online banking. I've received a free years subscription to a magazine twice by doing this.....

Never been that fortunate, guess most are on the ball, I have never had even one extra issue, just the ones I have been entitled too.

One note for anyone taking up trial issues, if you can never give out your phone number, because the publishers (Dennis Publishing being one magazine publisher..Computer Shopper etc) customer services will hound you via telephone for further trials.

Cheers. I've been thinking of moving from Edge to GamesTM for a while. Now i can try them both at the same time for a while

You're welcome, I personally prefer the editorial in Games™ than Edge, at that price certainly worth giving it a go to see for yourself if you like it. There is also not a vast amount of Advertising in Games™ that you usually find in other magazines, a solid read for sure.

How hard is it to cancel the subscription with the company?
#13
This has been on a leaflet inside Retro Gamer magazine for months now so I presume it works on more, if not all Imagine magazines.

Good deal if you insist on dead tree but I can't see the point anymore, games mags only had any kind of value to me before when they came with demo discs but now you can download demos, even to consoles.

Not voted either way.

Yes, I just cancel the DD soon after it's taken from the bank, even if there's quite a few issues still to come. You will still get all that you've subscribed to, even if it's just £1.

brilliant will give it a go!

Nice! Done many of these £1 trial offers before. Currently on a 5 issues for £5 with another. Once the money is taken cancel the DD and job done! Great!

I just got this email a few minutes after signing up:

Your web subscription to GAMES TM could not be processed for the following reason:
Trial offers can only be accepted once per person.

Slightly change your details then. e.g. use a hotmail email and use your middle name. Then see what happens.

thanks, worth a punt as im slightly out of date on new games etc

Some info on direct debits and merchants:

For any mag subscription, whether trials or full ones, should you not want to have the merchant debit any further, simply log into your online banking, or call your bank's customer service number, and cancel the DD after the first payment has been taken out.

Merchants will only be able to send you an email or letter along the lines of "we have been unable to debit X amount from your bank. Please check that the details are correct blah blah. If we are unable to make further debits, your subscription will be cancelled." This you can simply ignore, and it has no bearing on your credit history.

Above action is legal and valid as this is the legislation under the Direct Debit Guarantee.

Have done this offer a few time in the past, now that the new look Edge looks sooooooooo crud I'll be doing it again.

Ordered cheers OP :)

This deal's been knocking about for yonks. Not sure if it's still on, but I got a years subscription for something like £18 after the 3 for £1 deal. Worth a look!
#29
Mags are dead.........to easy to find out all the latest news and reviews quickly online at IGN etc

More hassle than its worth as every DD I have had to cancel such as Sky and Gym membership I had to inform them in writing prior to stopping the DD or they will hound you for money. Might not be the same with this but I couldnt be bothered to find out.

thanks - ordered

Nope far more amusing than the negativity of post #29 which was too much info.

Problem is I always worry about dropping my laptop in the bath while reading, and never remember to take it with me when I am having a dump. Magazines arent entirely without there uses.

Laptop on the loo - don't be silly.

Everyone knows the DS exists so you can play though Zelda while on the bog.

(Not in one session, mind...)

Good deal, think I will go for it, 33p an issue, can't complain. Though I find out that if you cancel too early, you miss out on an issue or 2. So I put a reminder in my phone for a week before the DD is due

Mags quite often have world exclusive details. which are then available on the net after the mag is out, so not always true.
1 thing i like about magazines is that i read them cover to cover, while on the internet easy to miss something, although i do use internet now for gaming news i still buy occasional magazines depending on whats in that issue. So 33p an issue is very good. Voted hot.
