Wasn't having a go at anyone, I just find Warhammer incredibly expensive. I guess it has a niche market but if they dropped their prices surely it would open it for mainstream users and potentially a much larger market.

In the 80s and 90s this sort of thing (not just warhammer, but various fantasy types too) would be made of metal and still cheaper (even adjusting for inflation), used to be very popular too. I think a lot of people lost interest when switched to plastics and prices rocketed.

£5 worth of plastic for £30! Hot!

Having worked for GW a few years back, more like 50p worth of plastic (and, of course, a license to print money).

I think people are forgetting that it doesn't matter what you personally think of the item, but whether its a good deal. A (roughly) 20% saving is a good deal if your after some warhammer figures. Have some heat from me.

My son, who is 9, would like to get into this, as a family friend aged 15 plays with him at his house. What do you think he needs, to start. Would it be best to wait till the new starter set comes out, or what do you recommend someone needs who hasn't got anything yet?
Thanks for your advice.
Its worth noting that whilst the new 40K rulebook is instore to buy 30th June, the new starter set isnt and won't likely be until September - the days when both the big book and the starter were released on day one are long gone and the same happened with the last Warhammer Fantasy - starter was months behind the book.

In terms of this deal.....it's okay but the Orks don't come to 900 points, at best you've got 800 points and the Marine force, again as starter, is going to fill up a lot of your more interesting choice for the army (10 man Terminator squad and 2 Dreadnaughts fills out your Elite choice for starters).

It's okay, but I don't recommend anyone going into this hobby to do it purely based on "I can get X points for X money" as its not the recipe for long term success.
I like how all the 'Geeks' in this thread can read and write properly....

As the others have said, this is cold because it's RRP. Yes it's a good deal, but go to somewhere like Maelstrom Games (even though the mods won't let me post up their deals) and it's £16.20 with free delivery.
Apart from GW direct items, anyone who actually pays full GW prices is mad!!
So...although, yes it's a good package deal, cold from me cos it can be had for cheaper from near enough any of the independant retailers.
RRP. Not a deal. The models included here are plastic too, so the "2 models for £16" line doesn't work as those are the white metal prices.
Have friends into this and I'm fairly certain this is a good deal. Check Ebay, models tend to be pricey. Don't see it myself.
its a great deal, two model's on their own are around the £16 mark. So you get nearlly 10 times the models plus paint plus a guide...
Probably because it's not a deal... it's rrp and ridiculous at that, good to see GW hasn't changed.
