Having simmered in Scorsese's mind for 25 years, Marty's vision finally came to the big screen in 2003, a bloody depiction of life in 1800's America and the story of the war for the territory of "olde" New York. Starring Leonardo Di Caprio as "Amsterdam", Cameron Diaz as his pickpocket lover "Jenny", and Daniel Day Lewis as the brilliant "Bill the Butcher" (Played just the right side of Pantomime villain by Mr Lewis, who was so impressed with the script he came out of retirement as an Italian cobbler to play the part. Seriously.) this film is a magnificent tribute to the director, a violent and worthy portrayal of the savage history of America. Different to anything else he's ever made, and with distinctive style, elaborate sets and top quality acting, this film was only a disappointment to those expecting another "Casino". Go buy it now.
