If you can't find one at ASDA, then sometimes they drop to £72.99 on Amazon.
#4
Ahh I really need one of these, don't think any of my Asda's have these :(
#5
Ooh. A mini watch GPS and computer thingy. Never seen one of the before, but I'm interested. Heat :)

I just use my phone.
It's becoming an attractive option with handsets now waterproof and supporting Ant+ for HRM, speed and cadence sensors.
Still prefer my Edge 510 though for durability, battery life and takes up minimal space on stem.
For someone wanting to keep cost down or casual riders, phones probably way to go.

I paid about £90 for this over a year ago and would still pay that now, it's a cracking bit of kit for the price !
Why use a Garmin ?
It's better than using apps on your mobile phone and running the risk of draining all it's battery ( just in case of emergencies )
but that's just my opinion :)

Bought one of these from Amazon about 3 weeks ago. Cracking piece of kit particularly at this price.

Really wouldn't want to mount my expensive phone on my bike, plus the battery life of the edge lasts a lot longer than any phone. I've got the edge 500 and it links to my cadence sensor and my heart monitor, these are a cracking bit of kit.
Hot for the price!

I was going to buy an 800 but worked out way cheaper & better IMHO to use a phone.

I bought an old Sony ARC S off gumtree for £40, longest cycles I'm done so far (& likely to do for a while) was 4hrs, battery was fine for this. Garmin HRM for £38 I think, Garmin Cadence Sensor for £28, Topeak Drybag £15, ipbike android app £5.

So far as I can see this gives me all the features of a Garmin 800, minus probably some battery life (though spare batteries are £6 a pop if I really decide I need them), though with a better screen. Mounts in the stem in the middle of the handlebars, perfect for me. If I crash, worst I do is kill an old £40 phone rather than a £200 garmin device.

this is a deal though. whether you prefer a phone or not. the point of this site is whether it is cheap or not.

I got this a couple of weeks ago for £75 on Amazon and it's the best thing I've ever bought. I wanted it to keep track of milage, speed etc but it gives you so much more it kinda gives you determination to get on your bike for a ride, aswell as beating your own sectors when uploading to garmin connect or strava. This is a fantastic price as is £95 in Halfords

I just use my phone.

Same here but it does become problematic when going straight after work.. iPhone battery life becomes a huge let down for me.
#15
If you flick your wifi and 3G off, so basically just turn your iphone into a mere phone, you can run Strava, Cyclemeter, Viewranger etc for hours.

Regularly do 5/6hr rides and use about 50%-60% battery life.

Airplane mode works best. You can easily get 24 hours GPS with a modern phone.

My GPS doesn't always work in airplane mode.

Might be easier said than done ASDA Birkenhead had never heard of them. It took me a while to explain what it was too.

I use a trusty old ZTE blade with a "silicone band" Hong Kong special.

Though I still want a Garmin Edge just for the simplicity of leaving it on the bike/being small. Good price for the 200.

Anyone found one in-store? Neither of the 2 big Asda's round my way have them (or knew what they were). Can't believe they advertised it in a London paper and no London stores seem to have them (wouldn't mind if they sold out but don't look like they ever had them!)

I had a look around my local ASDA but there was nothing like this for sale relating to bikes. Didn't even bother asking at the electronics desk. I wonder if there's a central number you can call to find out where specific stock might be local to you?

Picked one up at ferring Sussex asda. They had loads left! Awesome deal, thanks op!
#24
The hollingbury store looked at me like an idiot when I asked there..
#25
Awesome deal, really want to upgrade from my forerunner. iPhone battery doesn't last long enough, even with 3g, wifi, and brightness turned down.

They still have them in the Sutton store. There are behind the electronics counter at the back but with an empty box display for them and the Garmin Vivofit (also £69) just in front of it. At the end of the first row of shelves facing the clothing section.

Thanks. Bought from Asda Hull today.
