If budget is at this level I'd rather get a second hand edge 500

It's a good deal, but Aldi also did the Garmin 500 for the same price, six months ago. I realise time machines aren't readily available, but wanted to let you know - if you have time to wait/shop around, you should be able to pick up a cheap 500 for around this price, and given the additional features (altitude, and ANT+ compatibility), I'd be tempted to do so.

The 25 has ANT+ as well. I'd go for the 25 personally, for the convenience of bluetooth upload vs having to plug the 500 into a computer every time.

I find the livetrack feature very useful as well when I'm out cycling on my own, particularly on the mtb at night in case anything did happen, help would be able to find me a lot quicker.

And better size, faster GPS time-to-fix, better display and the rest. 500 is a few years old now (still a good bike computer though).

Nice and compact.

Works fast when I'm in the house!

Haven't used it yet until the weekend with a bit of rain...

How much phone battery does it use when linked by bluetooth.

Just normally connected, next to nothing as it uses Bluetooth Low Energy. I think it's slightly more with the live track functionality on.
