Manufacturer's Description

Outdoor enthusiasts, geocachers and anyone looking for adventure will love the eTrex. It combines intuitive, easy-to-use features and a rugged exterior into a lightweight package that is only 10 cm high and 5 cm wide. The result is a lightweight GPS navigator that will literally fit in the palm of your hand.

Built for Adventure
You can operate your eTrex with just one hand using five buttons, which are located on either side of the eTrex within easy reach of your fingers. Thanks to its bright yellow case, the eTrex is easy to find in your boat or backpack. You'll notice that eTrex's 12-parallel channel GPS receiver locks onto satellite signals quickly and maintains accuracy, even in tough conditions.

Find It and Go
With eTrex, your adventure can last and last — up to 22 hours on just 2 AA batteries. While you roam, you can store up to 500 waypoints in memory for easy retrieval. Just enter the point you want to go to, and eTrex points you to your destination (no street or terrain maps). To get home, use Garmin's exclusive TrackBack® feature to reverse your track log and help you navigate back to your starting point.

Not sure about the price but recommend the product - great for geocacheing - makes a weekend walk into a adventure. Kids love it.

Price is pretty good, many sites have it listed at £75 and above.

I've met walkers on the local moors using them, they seem to love them.

I've just found them on the Argos site, they're £85.49 plus postage on there.

The Gamin Etrex range has 3 suffixes,H,C,and x. The H means High sensitivity receiver, the C means Colour ( or Color as spelt in the manual ) and the x means the internal memory is expandable using micro SD cards. The H does make a difference if you are under trees as my wife has a HCX model whereas I only have a Cx, ( the H not being available when I got it ).

Primitive but effective. Still like these though you need to buy a special lead to connect to computer mapping software. There's a nice little eBay supplier that does these all in one. 'H' essential - still some old stock around which may catch the unwary.

Tough and good fast GPS signal. Buy high power AA rechargeables and charge them before you leave - the latest AAs that hold their charge don't last as long.
