The Forerunner 101 offers athletes, recreational walkers and runners an entry-level personal training device with GPS. It has the same features as the Forerunner 201, but operates on two AAA batteries. The Forerunner 101 stores lap histories for up to two years to provide an archive of workout performance. Users can retrieve lap data for previous workouts by date, week, month, or over a specific time interval. For business travellers who want to train on the road, the Forerunner 101 also doubles as a navigator. Users can mark their hotel as a specific location, see their current position on the plotter display, and follow an electronic breadcrumb trail back to their starting point.

Working out with the Forerunner 101 means you're never alone in your personal training, because the unit provides a "Virtual Partner". This unique feature allows you to set your training goal by configuring your Virtual Partner's pace and workout distance. You'll get a graphic perspective of your performance by viewing your pace in relation to your Virtual Partner's pace, so you can always see at a glance if you're keeping up or falling behind.

Features: Built-in GPS receiver provides accurate speed and distance data; no calibration required.
Virtual partner allows you to train against a time or pace you select.
Calculates calories burned based on body weight, distance travelled and slope changes.
5,000 lap memory organized into day and week view.
Pace, time and distance alerts.
Auto Pause pauses and resumes trainer timer based on a specified speed.
Auto Lap feature records lap data when you reach a specified distance.
Navigation capabilities allow you to mark and save locations, find locations and navigate back to starting point.
Up to 15 hours use on two AAA batteries (not included).

Forgive me for being dumb, but what is it?

Looks like a very handy piece of kit.

Superb offer! I use my Nano & Nike+ sports kit for running. Music on the move baby :-D

It's a GPS device for runners. It lets you know distance/speed/time and mapping goal waypoints, time to get there, things like that. It's pretty much a must have for runners, especially long distance running and marathons. Nice post N1XUK - it's always nice to see less typical items posted :)

I have one of these and they are a great help in your training as they help you keep a record of your distances, help you with your pacing, and if you have the right model, monitor your heart rate so you can judge your effective effort. If you have some mapping software you can also plot the route you have run. Unfortunately it doesn't actually do the training for you though!

Yeah I'm afraid that this isnt such a good price, all the range of Garmin Forerunners are a lot cheaper as stated above on Amazon.

These are last year's models. If you can stretch to it, I'd recommend the newer 205/305 models: smaller, faster to acquire the GPS satellites and less likely to lose the GPS signal under trees or in built up areas.

May not be the greatest price judging by follow-up posts, but cheers for basically letting me know these things exist.. I'm kinda interested in them now and will read some more
