This is the lowest price I've been able to find for this model - actually making it cheaper than the generally lower-spec 1390T and 1490T models:
4.7" widescreen, UK/Europe maps (60 days to update to the latest versions) / "Premium Lifetime traffic subscription " (important as this uses the mobile network to update, not FM) / Bluetooth.

Also comes with a year's subscription to Garmin's nuLInk (Camera updates, weather, local search, "friend finder", currency exchange, flight updates) - these will take £69.99 to renew annually which may not be to everyones taste.

imo its not lower spec than the 1490t unless you are willing to pay 70 quid a year - if you dont then you dont have any traffic data. (not checked if can add fm cable seperately)
even if you are spending...the difference in spec other than the way it receives traffic updates (and a few other 3g things) is it actually has a smaller screen than the 1490t
the other difference is the garmin locate but thats bound to be able to be done manually with the 1490t

that said its the cheapest i have seen it on amazon though has been cheapert han the 1490t for 'months' now and this is actually the lowest price difference between them i remember.
was 165vs 151 last time i looked

I'd originally mentioned that the screen was bigger on the 1490T (5" vs 4.3" ) but decided to edit it out :) - the 1690 has been a few pounds more than the 1490T recently.

The traffic situation is unclear -
"Award winning free premium lifetime traffic subscription for the UK and other European countries" is listed seperately to the 1 year nulink subscription - this suggests that part of this service is ongoing even if you let the nuLink subscription lapse - this would make sense as the unit can't access the "standard" FM traffic service - on the other hand "hot traffic" is listed as a nulink service.

okay someone enlighten me I have been using tomtom 910 for years now and have been satisifed with the result, but I am looking for a new sat nav - Garmin or tomtom 500 which one is "better"?
