Reading the contents on the Amazon site, this seems to be a refurb.
IMO Amazon should state this in the header / title

Newly Overhauled = refurb
#3
oh yet another new way to say (TRY TO HIDE) its second hand
they should all have to use the word "graded" in the title if the item is not new

Please note this does not necessarily mean second hand.

Nearly all Garmin units have had serious software issues and have been practically useless in daily use whilst driving including freezing halfway throu a long motorway journey and more. (Why do u buy a unit only to fail once you really need it???) I have the best one in the range and it was still dodgy. Looking back I should not have paid more than £150 for it but of course i paid close to double that approx 3 months ago.

As I am fairly tech savvy myself so I managed a complete overhaul myself but otherwise it can take your time & effort to do online including installing all their software on your pc first & registration which I recommend. Garmin are fully aware of the problems so expect some serious knock down prices for any Garmin units.

For this reason, they have had to be refurbed before they can be used. If a unit is brand new out of the box then you caan update the firmware of the unit as well as the maps yourself as Garmin provide a 60 day new maps guarantee online once registered. Ps use unit first, let it pick up signal approx half hr or so then do update of firmware plus update maps after and you most likely will have no issue.

Ahhh, sneaky. Glad you guys noticed coz I was tempted to but it for my sister who has no sense of direction!

Great deal, An amazing device i must say.
#8
Great deal!

Good deal for a solid sat nav... Refurb, though, you should still get one years warranty!
#10
Really good deal, I bought one when they were on Amazon 4 months back (or so) you'd never know it was a refurb, looked completely new. Very happy with it.
#11
Does anyone know if you can you put Tom Tom on this ?
#12
Are the garmin ones any good? Seems a pretty good price...
#13
I find it quite effective. I had a Sony one prior which developed a fault on the screen, I'm finding it easier to use than that one, but that is my only means of comparison.

I would imagine that you can only put Tom Tom on a Tom Tom device. I have one and it picks up on the device hardware settings.

Wrong, you can add Tom Tom to non Tom Tom devices....but I cannot state if possible for this one. Am also curious.....anyone?

No, but seeing you have no way of selecting one of the ones that IS new and has only had the firmware updated, then it is only fair to assume you are getting a second-hand one that has been returned because it was bust and they have had to bodge it up! :-(

Absolutely shocking of Amazon, I had thought better of them than coming up with the most ridiculous euphemism so far :-(

Were all the units new with firmware updates, if I was selling them, I would have only been too happy to be shouting that very loudly! Strange that they are not saying this, so it seems reasonable to assume it is because they are not.

You imagine very wrong.
However I am unaware if this can can be used with TomTom.

One that can:
eg. http://www.whsmith.co.uk/CatalogAndSearch/ProductDetails-Navigo+Sat+Nav-33533551.html
£48.94 Delivered to store. Unfortunately not NEARLY as cheap as it has been in the not too distant past :-(
Have a look at the NUMEROUS threads on this site for more about this and similar gadgets with TomTom

Are you sure you can add TomTom to a non TomTom dedicated sat nav device such as a Garmin or Navman? A PDA yes.

Maybe on a Navigo but on a brand that develops it's own mapping and software i'd like to know which models you can get it on.

No idea either, but that's a totally different thing to what you initially said!

I have TomTom running on my Navigo unit , Igo8 & Miomap as well .

Do a Google for the info , easily done if you have an SD carded unit .

Maybe I should've made it clearer. I meant that you can only really put TomTom on a TomTom sat nav dedicated device in the context of this deal and discussion - which was in reply to the person asking can it go on a Garmin.

That's useful to know. So it sounds like you can put it on the lesser known brands then that don't develop their own software. I'll think about that next time i'm in the market for one.

I'd love to know if anyone's got TomTom on a Garmin because I have a TomTom with the maps and stuff. I suspect you can't though.

Garmin are the easiest sat navs to update the maps for free.
#25
You can't put TomTom on this as it isn't a windows based system. Don't know why you would want to put TomTom on rather than Garmin anyway - Garmin is a very good system.

The reason I asked about putting Tom Tom on this is because I have a copy of Tom Tom with all the UK & European maps. I had it installed in a MyGuide PDA which is now broken. I am pretty ignorant re dedicated Sat Nav units and their ability to host other programmes. I had seen the thread about the Navigo from WH Smith and the discussion surrounding putting other Sat Nav s/ware on it and wondered if this was the same.

I would be interested in this if lostboybinns can enlighten us on updating the maps for free ?

There's lots of sites out there to help you modify your GPS devices.

One that I use for my Mio C310X is: www.gpsunderground.com

Very good price, I have the Nuvi 250 and it's brilliant, very easy to use. And you can download maps of other countries for when you go on holiday.
