Manufacturer's Description
Simple, safe, portable and affordable with optional traffic re-routing, the nüvi 215 is your personal travel assistant for life on the go. This simple, safety-minded navigator leads the way with turn-by-turn directions, lifetime traffic avoidance and a unique, advanced safety camera warning system to get you there on time and keep you safe on the road. Packed with up to millions of points of interest (POIs) and maps for the UK and Ireland, the 215 is compact, versatile and easy to use.

Simplicity and safety

Nüvi 215 comes preloaded with City Navigator NT map data for the UK and Ireland. Simply touch the colour screen, key in your destination and nüvi takes you there with turn-by-turn spoken directions, 2-D or 3-D mapping and smooth map updates. Digital elevation maps show shaded contours for an understanding of the surrounding terrain. In addition, nüvi 215 accepts custom points of interest such as traffic blackspots and post offices and lets you set proximity alerts to warn you of upcoming POIs. With HotFix satellite prediction, Garmin calculates your position faster to get you there quicker.

'Where Am I?' gives you details about your location in a flash. Simply tap the car icon for your exact latitude and longitude coordinates, nearest address, contact details for your vehicle rescue service and directions to the closest hospital, police or petrol station.

Nüvi 215's advanced Cyclops safety camera database helps you travel with the confidence you are driving safely, responsibly and legally. As you approach one of hundreds of fixed, mobile and temporary safety cameras, variable limit or red light speed cameras across Europe, it gives an audible alert, overspeed warning and speed limit information.

Nüvi 215 also comes with Garmin Lock, an inventive anti-theft protection system that uses GPS to lock to a secure location of your choice.

Enhanced navigation

The nüvi 215 comes with photo navigation to revolutionise your sightseeing. Plan trips to landmarks and attractions simply and easily before you set off. Choose and save location-tagged photographs from millions of Google Panoramio pictures in a wish-list of places to visit. Then, at your leisure, select a photo destination on your Garmin for turn-by-turn directions straight to the scene.

Other built-in travel tools include a JPEG picture viewer, world travel clock with time zones, a currency and measurement converter, calculator and more.

Customise

Personalise your nüvi 215 with your choice of background photograph. To customise your screen further, select a new vehicle icon from the Garmin Garage. With a wide range of wheels including off-road vehicles, motorbikes and classic cars, you can now tailor your Garmin to suit your style.

Compact, bright navigation

Nüvi 215 has a sleek, slim design to fit comfortably in your pocket or purse. Its rechargeable lithium-ion battery makes it convenient for navigation by car or foot with up to 4 hours' usage between charges.

View map detail, driving directions, photos and more in bright, brilliant colour. The sunlight-readable 3.5-inch display is easy to view - from any direction.

Great just ordered one. Thanks

Top brand satnav for the price of a gonzo one!

I've used one for 2-3 years and it's an excellent basic unit. Definitely worth paying the extra fiver for the free traffic service (even though it's not totally reliable).

Good deal - Hot from me...

One thing i did notice is that the one that was linked that has traffic updates is the 205 and not the 215... Dont know what the difference is but the 215 with traffic is £75

Here

Got this for similar price from Sainsburys a few months ago.

Takes a micro sd card with maps.
Ok website where you can download free extras.
Blue toothed to phone no probs.
Really easy and good to use - better than the Tom tom we had that had no SD card slot.

I don't think you need any more features than this has, however, I'd like to have had a bigger screen .

Doesn't say it on the spec but the plenty of comments on the amazon user comments about it. Apparantly you can connect up your phone to make it hands free.

anyone know difference between this and tom tom start

which is better ,about the same price
#12
Garmin everytime. Ask a taxi driver.
#13
Is it worth paying the extra tenner for the widescreen version – 4.3” 16/9 versus 3.5” 4/3?
I’d have thought that widescreen isn’t necessarily better for a Satnav!

Don't get me started about that Tom Tom, I 'ad one in the back of the cab once, he was nuthin' but aggro, worse than me misses.

#15
Great find, thats my dad's christmas present sorted. He refuses to admit that he needs one, so I'm gonna damn well force it on him!
#16

this seems really good price for a basic satnav. i'm new to these - does anyone know if i can upload european maps software onto this model?
#19
Mine came with European maps pre installed.
You can add maps via SD card, download them or buy a cd rom and download yourself.
Easy peasey lemon squezey.
And lots better than our Tom Tom One XL

Had my 205W stolen a while back and decided to go with the navigon 40 premium and the clarity of verbal and visual directions is far better than the garmin.

This is a good cheap deal but for £96 (with voucher) plus 5% quidco I have a much better bit of kit with TMC and bluetooth.

whats the difference between the garmin 205 and 215? thanks
