Fantastic price for a fantastic piece of kit. I bought the (non-widescreen) Nuvi 250 in the summer (£167, which was a good price then) for when we drove to the bottom of France and it is a gem. Highly recommend this unit to anyone, it is so easy to use and has lots of great features.

Good price for such a good piece of kit but have noticed some others similarly priced which have equally good reviews albeit not so well known.

How does Garmin Nuvi 200 series compare to TOMTOM one series?

Which one is better?

How does Garmin Nuvi 200 series compare to TOMTOM one series?

Which one is better?

I've had the TT 510 and 910 and the Garmin 660, in my opinion the Garmins are far superior in their mapping and build quality.
I think this is a great price for this model.

I've never quite understood why a widescreen display would be an advantage on a satnav. Yes, on a TV it allows you to see 'more' of the scene, I suppose, but surely the most important view on a SatNav is straight ahead - and a widescreen wouldn't exactly enhance the viewing pleasure here? I'm sure I've missed summat so embarrassingly obvious, though, lol.

PS Voted hot, great deal!

The advantage of the Garmin NUVI 250 is that it comes with European maps, the Tomtom ONE V3 European edition is £143. The advantage of the Tomtom ONE V3 is that you can add a traffic receiver, the Garmin 200/200w/250/250w you can't.

what about the 'hackable' Myguide 3100?

Was going to go for this, seems like a great price, but the mixed user reviews have put me off slightly. Might wait till after xmas and see if prices plummet even further.

I'm not sure it matters that much.

Sure, when driving, and the unit auto-zooms at say big complex roundabouts, it's good to have a wide view of everything.

Conversely, though, seeing PDAs used in portrate mode, as sat navs, have often seemed appealing - as you can see a bit further ahead of your route, and what's going to happen.

All that said, though, my first sat nav was a Garmin i3, which has a rather dinky sized screen compared with most, these days - yet it works pretty well, as the auto-zoom seems very well suited to the size of the display.
