Slightly older model with 2008 maps, but a great price for a great sat-nav. Hot.

Case for 99p as well.

Haven't taken the plunge for a Sat Nav yet, but do you have to pay for updated maps, or would it work like Tom Toms allowing you to download the latest for free?

Just seen a review from Dec 19th on website.

"my unit has come pre loaded with the 2009 map set, so no need to log on to Garmin and download new maps"

Looks pretty good - tempting

Some last of line 250s will have 2009 maps, but this will not be guaranteed. Model 255 is the same but with 2009 maps. Sadly Garmin do not give you free updates to the latest maps (unless returned as "faulty" to them). They do give you 30 day trial for speed trap updates.

Thanks - the search may go on a bit longer for the "perfect" sat nav.

I have this model and let me tell you it rocks. Have done a LOT of research on GPS gear beforehand and bought all kit retail at circa 200gbp last year.

More modern kit has some features like lane assist and the like which seem to be at hand for the "more mature driver" , but if you have 20-20 vision and a valid liscence you should be able to use one without it telling you exactly which lane to move into or which centimetre at which to turn. In use, you tend to still need common sense and no GPS is perfect hence lorries getting stuck all the time. But for getting from anywhere to anywhere without having to always print a map from the AA Route site , RAC or breaking out the mapbook in the car and arguing with the other half while the kids sing "we want we want we want a wee, if you dont stop for us we'll do it on the bus" in the back - this covers you nicely. Garmin are quality devices.

Map-wise : upgraded version should be on board, arguably you can return without any questions asked for the price of postage if they dont. Can always buy or "acquire" the 2009 maps from a friend i assume. Even with 2008 maps you are sweet.

Note : traffic alerts are a nice thing to have tho.

Arg - my bad - im talking about the Nuvi 350 not 250. Euro maps on board gratis, and traffic alerts with the addon receiver save you a lot of time.

http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/garmin-nuvi-review.php

At amazon, its about another £50 : 129 for the kit, or 149 with the traffice receiver (The latter is well worth it on built up areas/city travelling - but dont pay more than 20 for the addon).
Dont know if those prices are a serious bargain or not but they are HALF of what i paid last year for brand new kit and upgraded maps on disk.

Hope that helps.

Great basic sat-nav! We demo/sell the latest Garmins & Tom Tom's and the vast majority of us prefer Garmin over TT.

Tom Tom is the best selling brand due to marketing, however, Garmin make better sat-navs in just about every aspect.

damn bought one exact model but for 129.99 anyways voted hot

I bought this model last year for £100. Great piece of kit. have used it extensively in Wales and it coped well with rural areas (my old sat nav didn't really like north of Brecon!) and have used it travelling around southern Portugal, southern Spain and around Mallorca. Hasn't let me down yet. So simple to use. No complaints really.

What!?! - Garmin are the best sat nav out there and imo there is no point buying inferior units now you can get these for under £100

The other ones to check out are the widescreen models as you get a bit more view and detail, The Nuvi's are lovely and slim, use a standard mini usb connection and the screen mount is superb.

Maps - these will most likely ship with the 2009 version but if they don't just register the unit and give Garmin a call and they will send out a disc - excellent support when you call them too!

Glad to be of use with the deal - I bagged one last night on supersaver delivery and already got the confirmation that it is on its way.

Expired as Amazon have added a fiver onto the original deal.
