Go easy on me as this is my first post! Couldn't find this cheaper on-line anywhere else. Comet are asking £169.99 for it.

Saw these in-store at my local Tesco Extra. Also available on-line to get 3% Quidco and triple clubcard points until Wednesday 14 May.

This satellite navigation (sat nav) system from Garmin provides spoken and visual travel directions for roads, street names and postcodes in the UK and Ireland through a 2.8" touchscreen and speaker system which incorporates an MP3 player. 3D mapping brings greater sense of reality to route visualisation. Vehicle suction cup mount, AC Charger, carry case, 12-24 volt adapter cable, dashboard disk, USB interface cable, quick reference guide and in car charger are included accessories. No they didn't!

Comet had the non-traffic '300' version. This is the 300T. Not the same thing. Voted hot.

http://hotukdeals.com/item/176696/garmin-nuvi-300-84-99-including-fre/

The 300 is £99.99 in Comet. The 300T is £169.99 in Comet.

They've got them in Tesco at Carlisle, which isn't an Extra, so I expect they will be in most sores.

Yes they did! I got one, a 300T. I tried everything to get the code to work for the nuvi 300 in the other topic but got nothing, after a while looking on the net it seemed the 300t was the one on offer, so i tried it and it worked so i ordered one. Worked out with Quidco to be £82.

Anyway, back on topic. A great buy for those which missed it last week (or was it two weeks ago) Hot!

Yeah, the addition of the traffic update does make this a really good price.

Hate tesco, but have to vote this hot

The 300T has been reviewed twice on amazon.co.uk and both people gave it 1 star out of 5...

"Sadly, there are known problems with the TMC receivers, ie they don't work, but garmin won't seem to do anything about it. Mine did not even look for a signal, and you can't manually search (unlike Tom Tom). Forums are full of complaints about this. I drove on stretches of motorway I know other people pick up signals on, and mine wouldn't even search! "

voted hot....great price

Excellent 1st post, godedd - heat and rep left!

Being a 300-series owner, those two reviews are clearly from 2 people who didn't actually bother to RTFM and one of them has a PC with USB problems!!

No problems with TMC, in fact reception seems to be far better than that for TomTom!! Where problems are found, there are firmware upgrades. TMC is poor in the UK for ANY satnav, due to the fact that the FM transmitter power outputs are ONE TENTH of what they are in all other countries that use the system. That's TrafficMaster's fault, not Garmin's or TomTom's.

Mine has been well tested BTW, I do approx 40,000 miles pe year.

ordered one! use 5£ voucher with quidco should work out to around 90£. Thanks OP

I friend me mine hard the 360, that has bluetooth, and text to speech meaning it says turn onto downing street etc. Really nice. Maps are better than tomtom if you don't update, but as soon as you get latest tomtom maps and mapshare updates i think tomtom just has the edge. One thing i've noticed about these however is how inaccurate the bends are, we were on a country road we both knew with i shape 100 degree bend, looke about 70 ish on the map. Doesn't sound like much, but misjudge that and you've had it.

Hi do the traffic updates come to the unit through GPRS on a mobile phone?

Thanks in advance

Excellent deal. I bought 300 one from Comet. I wish I could return it but 14 days passed.

No, they come via FM signals broadcast by certain radio stations so basically cost you nothing once you have it as it is free lifetime subscription. Though I think I would probably maybe prefer to pay a small subscription if it made for a better service. Unfortunately the traffic updates in this country seem to be pretty poor compared to other countries in Europe where the trafic date is far more accurate. My unit sometimes has a habit of saying 'Traffic Ahead' about 2 mins after I've joined a 2 mile tailback and doesn't give enough information about road works or closures etc.

I have the 310T - which is basically the same but with bluetooth..very nice little unit, and Garmin sent me the latest maps free on a DVD when I registered :)

The TMC works very well when you get a signal - but thats pretty patchy really..I get a good signal around major cities and on motorways, but it does vary considerably. Still its nice to have.

Voted hot - this is a very good price for a unit with traffic.

Thanks for that. Would you recommend it over the Nuvi 200W which is going for the same price (although the 200W of course has a bigger screen)?

Does this unit have European mapping? I'm going to France this summer and it would be very handy if I only had to concetrate on staying on the right side of the road!

While I'm on the subject, how easy is it to add US mapping?

Try and find one of these instead:

Garmin Nuvi 370:
Traffic (even though it doesn't say 'T', this one is as standard)
Spoken street names
Bluetooth hands free
UK Maps
European Maps
USA Maps
Canada Maps

Picked up two of these a few weeks ago. £149.97 in PCWorld, £320 in Comet!!

Don't forget, when you register a new Garmin satnav, they send you the latest maps on DVD in the post - however, if you get a 370 or another model with European and USA/Canada mapping, you can only have a map update for one or the other, but not both.

Camarthen is showing stock...checking someothers now.

Can totally agree with this. I got the older model, the C550 which has the same features (traffic, text to voice, bluetooth, European maps, anti-theft lock) just in a bulkier unit. The TMC coverage is okay around major motorways and pretty much non-existant everywhere else. I drove all the way along the full length of the M27 a while back and didn't get a TMC signal once. The data (when you can actually get it) is usually pretty accurate. It's a shame they didn't just pick up the signal from the blue TrafficMaster cameras along motorways and A roads - that at least would have proved consistent and reliable.
