If you DO qualify for the map update, you will probably be able to load up full european mapping.

Bought my 610 about a year ago and got the upgrade CD. Needed to ad a 2gig SD card but now hav all europe loaded on my unit. The Garmin guy actually told me I could do that when he sent me the CD (dvd I think).
Don't know if their policy has changed but the upgrade is definitely worth pursuing.

I heard that you could download maps now, I didn't have that option. I would suggest if possible to go for the diak option as I expect that would have the full european maps. The download might only be UK .......but don't quote me on that.
UK satnavs have less internal memory than full european versions as far as I can work out. Consequently I had to add the 2 gig card. If yours is european to start with then you should not need the extra card.
Basically you install the prog they send you on your PC, insert a blank SD card in the satnav and the prog sends everything in via usb, simple as that. The whole of europe is divided up into small segments, you highlight the areas you want and upload them to the unit. I just grabbed the whole lot.
Hope that helps.

thats the name of the download i have had added to my account, i would guess it is europe...dont think its meant to be eurpoean to begin with so may be a good deal....just thinking i might see if there is a way to download it and burn it to a disk for a backup copy

I've got a Garmin. Bought it a year ago. I love it. In fact, as a matter of fact, I am using it tomorrow to get me to my parents in the Netherlands as quick as possible. I have done this 3 times last year and it finds me a route, partially through country roads, which is much faster than by the motorway. (This is a setting - if you want to use motorways for as much as possible, you can.)

The units are big enough to view properly are can easily be updated by Garmins' own software.

Its not worth buying this as its the old model that lacks Lane Assist and essentially the V5 firmware.
