It also comes with FM TMC traffic alerts.

This is the cheapest I have seen this one anywhere e.g. £150 from tescos.

And don't forget 3% quidco too.

edit: Dabs have knocked another tenner off it.

Thanks for the post. I've updated it to include the delivery charge, which we always try to show here. :)

Just wanted to say a huge thumbs up to Dabs.

I ordered this yesterday about 5:30 and it arrived first thing this morning :w00t:
#3
I took it out of the box this morning and found it comes with full Europe maps

I've amended to thread title to show this.
#4
could u tell me what version maps it has v8 or v9 ?

Thanks
#5
What do I do to find out if it's V8 or V9?
#6
By the barcode on the bottom of the box there is a little v8 or v9, or go into settings>map>map info. v9 is the latest map version but v10 or 2008 whatever they call it will probably be out in the next couple of months.
#7
On the map info screen it says: City Navigator Europe NT v9.

Hope that helps
#8
updated the first post with new price.

This is now cheaper than the refurb tomtom and in my opinion a superior satnav

#10
Nice one, joconnor Thanks rep. added!
#11
Just thought this deserved a bump as it's a brilliant price for a great SatNav (IMHO a better bet than the TomTom) - and the traffic module on this doesn't require a subscription.
#12
This is a great price, I got mine from Staples a few month's ago and its been brilliant, don't forget you can get it to speak the road names instead of just saying "at the end of the road turn left" it will say "at the end of the road turn left onto Station Road"

http://geepeeex.googlepages.com/text2speech

Don't forget to read all the instructions as it doesn't work on later firmware revisions ( but did on mine)

Or you can use this method, which I used and it isn't too difficult to do

how new are v9 maps ?

Thanks

For anybody that's bought and received this, can you confirm whether the traffic thing has a free lifetime subscription?

Also, bluetooth? I looked at this earlier when the deal was first posted, and was under the impression it was bluetooth capable, but looking at it, now, and I don't think it is?

Still a helluva bargain for the price.
#16
I received mine today - but the problem is there is no cd included in the pack with the European maps, nor the traffic transmitter. Probably too late to phone them today, so I will give them a call tomorrow.
#17
The maps were preloaded on mine, have you tried just inputting an address from Spain or France to see if they're already on it.

Also the traffic bit is quite easy to miss. If your in car charger has a little wire with two small suctions cups on it then you do have the traffic transmitter.

BEWARE ! :-(

Price at Daba now £114.99 + postage.
Offers on free postage, Visa accredited & Google Checkout have expired.

Ordered unit & delivered today but only with UK & Ireland maps loaded & no Euro dvd. Phoned Garmin & told this is correct & when Map Info on unit shows "City Navigator Europe NT v9" followed by "(1) UK & Ireland" this means only single choice of uk./Ire. maps are loaded on units memory & need to buy separate DVD (£140) or SD card (£110) if want Eur. maps.
Only fringe areas of north France listed on loaded maps already in unit.
Helpful Garmin support lady suggested return unit to Dabs & buy more appropriate but dearer Nuvi £350 as better bet for Europe.
Previous experience of returns to Dabs not a happy one so any ideas of alternative free/cheap source of Euro maps to add to otherwise solid Street Pilot C510 before trip to Spain next week ?
#19
so this a hit and miss whether or not it comes with Europe maps?

Mine didn't - but I'm not that bothered - I was mainly interested in the TMC / traffic thing.

And besides, I already have a copy of Metroguide Europe v9 and Metrogold if I want euro mapping.

I bought mine through the BT shop site at £99, and it was free delivery on everything over £99.98.

Dabs didnt actually say it was loaded with European mapping it was someone here thatt posted it but thats not down to DABs
#22
It is worth noting that this offer does not include European mapping and is for a REFURBISHED unit.

Good or bad?
You decide.

Well I noted the outside of the box that said refurbished. However, the case, screen and every other indication on the actual unit itself looks new - no signs of any use. Given it's a touchscreen device, that fits onto a mount, and has cables and plugs that are used, I'd have thought something that's used will easily be spotted.

All the other bits and pieces (cables, mount, and GTM-21) are definitely brand new.

At £105.99 for a SiRF III chipset sat nav, with v9 mapping, and fully subscribed traffic, I'd say it's still a bargain.

I also bought one of these bought from the original post is said "newly overhauled" on it when I approached Dabs over it they told me it was new, I reported it to trading standards and they confirmed it wasnt new they are investigating dabs over the matter the only reason I got them involved is the same thing happened the week before when I bought an mp3 player from Ebuyer and I pretty fed up in getting refurbished goods that are sold as new which they are not.
#25
to use the fully subscribed traffic feature, do you have to connect the sat nav unit to a mobile phone?

Can you report back to this thread what happens with trading standards?

I did see what was on the box when I got mine - and I do agree, neither website (BT shop, nor dabs) shows mention of this - but I was unable to see any evidence of previous use. The unit itself looks brand new (although I guess it's possible for the skin / case and screen may be new, but the internals used), the anciliaries are definitely new.

If it truly is a refurb unit, then I'd be interested to hear what happens about this. Thanks for updating the thread.

No, it comes with it's own TMC receiver that's integrated into the car power lead (it's a Garmin GTM-21 TMC receiver), and has a TM lifetime subscription.

It's not got any bluetooth connectivity, the C550 is the unit in that range that has.

excellent, thanks for the info mate

They ARE refurbished.
The web sites of both Dabs & BT.Shop have been amended to show this.

Definition of refurbished: restore something to good repair: to restore something to a cleaner, brighter, or more functional state.

Obviously anything with signs of wear/use will have been replaced.

I have no problem with these units being refurbished, but they should have been advertised as such.
#32
The OP should be changed to show the correct prices

Dabs now £120.99 inc del
shop.bt.com now £114.99 inc del

and state that the units are REFURBISHED and European maps are NOT included.

They're not daft questions. Before becoming used to sat navs, they would be reasonable questions I would think of asking. The answers aren't always that intuitive, but do make sense with perspective.

bigup

Quite likely (no europe maps included).

bigup

Well you can buy updates (effectively Mapsource - prices can be from around £40 to over £100 depending on what bit you buy into and when) - or depending on when you buy and register your unit, you may well qualify for a free update once the 2008 mapping gets released (likely to be January). The updates tend to include all of europe.

Some users have gone down the route (pardon the pun) of using Metroguide maps (traditionally not routable, but...) which aren't as expensive as Mapsource. Also, Metroguide mapping isn't locked to a unit as Mapsource maps are. There is software (Metrowizzz (freeware) or Metrogold (payware, but very cheap ($6)) that can make Metroguide mapping fully routable and useable on Garmin sat nav units - so may well be a cheaper route of getting updates or further mapping. One caveat, though: Metroguide mapping's voice instructions don't understand roundabouts - the maps visually do, but the voice instructions don't "get" roundabouts.

bigup
also how often are there map updates?

Where Garmin / NAVTEQ are concerned, yearly.

Agreed, it would be great to hear. Then I too could pursue this.

In reply too everyones interest Trading standards have purchased the item from me as evidence against Dabs, I would suggest that anyone else receiving these units at least complain to dabs because if people dont these companies will continue to do this.........when I first complained to Dabs they're response was "well no one else has complained" like I was lying!!!!!!!!
