What do you expect for £50?

No offence to the OP if it's true, but I suspect a windup going on here:giggle:

Are these any good?

Was gonna go for that tomtom offer which never appeared :-(

I think it might be true, they're only about £90 on internet shops and the garmin site says it's discontinued.

I have had the i3 for about two years as also a mate, we have both found that in the last few months they are finding it difficult to keep locked onto the satellites.
If the satellites are working now on a reduced power, that will be why a new breed of satnav's are out with super sensitive receivers.

Both my garmin street pilot and garmin i3 have the same prob's.
Could this be why the are now discontinued and been sold off cheap?, keep meaning to call garmin to find out what is going on.:-(

Go for Garmin NUVI 300 for £99 in Asda, as good as if not better than tomtom one.

Have you tried an external ariel/antenna?

Bought one of these about 15 months ago for £99 and IMO it was worth every penny. Bargain at £50 although it constantly nags me now to do a map update as its over a year old... Priced around £80!!!:w00t: :w00t:

Nowhere near as good as a tomtom one, the Nuvi 300 was superceded a long time ago by the Nuvi 350...

The streetpilot i3 was superceded by the now superceded Nuvi 300, so that shows you how old this model is...Save your money add a little more to it and go for the Tomtom one you will not be dissapointed...;-)
#13
So, has anybody found an i3 instore yet?
#14
I got my parents an i3 when ther were last a bargain @ £99 down from £179....

Well worth every penny, its a great little sat nav. Its small - about tennis ball sized but that makles it great to transport. No touch screen - who gives a flying ****, you don't need one on something like this!

I have an i3 and i paid a lot more than £50 for it, thought it was good for £130 back when i got mine.

but for £5o its a bargin.

Also what version of the mapping software does it have?

Becuase if its v8 register it with garmin since you got it after they released citynavigator V9 they should send you a dvd with the upgrade to v9 for and give you the v9 europe unlock codes for free. :-D

There should be a yellow label in the box that gives you the codes you need to register online, but with some if the i3's they forgot to put it in!
If thats the case email garmin support with the serial number of the unit and they should give you the information thats missing.

you need to rollback the firmware to get rid of that nag screen.
#17
This is an amazing little unit and if you dont believe any of us on here then maybe you should get the back issue of T3 magazine (if you dont know its a tecnology mag) and was rated 5/5

ok no touchscreen but what the hell do you expect for this cash, How long exactly does it take to put a post code in i ask you

never had a problem with locating sats

a must buy

Can you explain what this means?? I'm a woman and not technical but mine says that and it's really annoying!

Also, how do I find what version of maps that I have on my new Nuvi 300 that I picked up from Asda yesterday???

'A 225% reduction according to the assistant..'

Are you sure it wasn't Paul Whitehouse or Victoria Wood as they are clearly having a laugh with you.

Has your Car got a Polarised or Heated Windscreen?

If it has, this will degrade the signal and you'll need an external antenna

Good advice but not 100% correct, my focus has a heated windscreen and i've had two satnav's which have been perfect, i think Citroens are the worst because of their polarising screens ;-)

My Escort has a normal screen and my RA6000 works perfectly (9 sats average), the wifes has a heated screen and she's lucky to get 3 locked. Currently looking for an mmcx antenna on the cheap...

Great little unit. Paid £80 for mine a year ago and have used it extensively... Ignore the idiot who voted cold for not having touch screen technology. This is a very easy to use unit I have loaned this to my 75 year old aunt and she had no problem using it... unlike the the £2k system fitted in her lexus!

I have a Garmin i3 and a Citroen. And you are correct about their windscreens blocking most of the signal.
However on my car, a Xsara, the solution is to position the i3 unit right up beside your rear view mirror. This place on the windscreen has none of the protective coating (Something to do with it being made this way to accomadate some electronic toll road paying device in France, I believe).

Once you place it there the i3's reception is great. It a good little device and a bargain at this price. If this version comes with the older maps then you can register on the Garmin site for the latest maps. I did this and they send me the complete europe maps on CD.

My girlfriend also has one and uses it all the time as she drives about with work. It also seems to work quite good in the North and South of Ireland (Im from N. Ireland)

These are fantastic little units :) Used mine all over the UK and Ireland it it works a treat. Don't know what I'd do without it.
#30
Can anyone confirm its available at this price?
#31
So anyway.... I'm still waiting for somebody to come on here and confirm they got one for £50. It is nearly 1:30 so somebody must have by now......

Signal receptionon on my i3 has gradually got worse during the last 18 months. I suspect that a ctitical component is drifting - probably a capactitor on the receiver circuit :-( I always get the screen saying something like "unable to find satellites" - do you want to continue - . Usually takes 3-4 minutes to get a lock whilst I'm moving :-(

Otherwise a rather excellent wee beastie;-)

To get rid of the nag screen - do a hard reset btw. Although this also wipes all your saved positions. Nag screen appears after a year. Although best bet is to load the free Eurpoean maps (A REAL BARGAIN), and install a 1GByte memory card if you've got the older i3s that take the tiny 256Mb card.

No i3s ASDA in Leicester Fosse Park btw, to keep this on topic:-(

You use a combination of button presses combined with a menu system, like a digital camera,
