Another great price comedy DVD from Amazon.

Garth Marenghi's Darkplace was originally filmed in the 1980s and has since earned a cult reputation as one of the most terrifying and radical television programmes ever made. Despite this, none of the episodes have ever been seen before now (although the show enjoyed a brief run in Peru).

Darkplace was scripted and directed by the best-selling horror writer Garth Marenghi, known to thousands as the author of such classic chillers as "The Ooze" (can water die?), "Afterbirth" (a mutated placenta attacks Bristol) and "Black Fang" (where rats learn to drive). In addition, Marenghi starred as the show's lead character, Dr Rick Dagless--a maverick doctor battling against the evil forces lurking beneath a hospital in Romford.

Even now, Garth warns that the show, in its effort to "radicalise men's minds", may prove "too subversive, too dangerous, too damn scary." The wait for the most famous 'lost' project in horror goes on, but not for much longer...

Sadly overlooked comedy classic!

As is Snuff Box in my other post, its ashame that a lot of the best comedy is overlooked in favour of things like Little Britain. Not that I hate it, I just feel there's a lot better out there, and these are just two examples :)

And I agree with the Little Britain comment above.

Hilarious comedy.

Has been at this price for years on HMV and Play (so probably was on Amazon too). Great price for a great series. It is so much better than the cringeworthy not-funny shitcom IT Crowd which Ayoade and Berry went on to star in (as well as Chris Morris which I still haven't forgiven him for).

I actually quite enjoy the IT Crowd, admittedly when I first watched it I wasn't overly impressed but it is really good once you get into it :-D

'You and he were....buddies?'

Need I say more. Need I say more.

Every time this comes up as a deal I feel compelled to say how much of an absolute classic it is and the DVD extras are the best I've ever seen.

(I always vote it hot too!)

I think it's down to a lowest common denominator thing, Little Britain, and the current favourite target of the comedy snobs, Michael Macintyre, are quite funny, to most people.

For me, Snuff Box, Brass Eye, and other darker comedies are far better and funnier, but a smaller percentage of people are going to like them, but they'll like them more.

I do feel a bit sorry for Macintyre tho, even tho he's probably a millionaire by now, he's just a fairly good comedian who got lucky, and now he's getting bashed by everyone. IF only the Daily Mail had never said how good he was, he'd probably have been ok.

IF the Daily Mail really want to destroy Chris Morris's new movie about a idiot group of wannabe terrorists in London, all they need to do is give it a 5 star review and recommend it!

I guess all I'm saying is there's enough people out there trying to knock comedy, maybe we shouldn't divide over the small stuff :)

I've never seen Darkplace, but if it's close to Snuff Box, I'm sold!

This is soo funny! Should have been another series

well I loved Brass Eye and Garth Marenghi - comedy like Music doesn’t always appeal to everyone.
As Stewart Lee said - Is Del Boy falling through a bar really the funniest thing ever?

Stewart Lee? Now there's someone I just don't see the appeal of, I watched 2 episodes of his show and found it incredibly dull and unoriginal, he's just a self important grumpy fart.

Stewart Lee I'm a big fan of, he's playing in my local theatre, and I'm going, but sort of dreading it being empty when I get there, most comedy shows I've been to in Redhill, there's maybe been enough people to fill three or four rows of seats, it's kind of embarrassing, I sorta feel sorry for the guy on stage sometimes :D

However I can totally see how his style won't work for many people, I feel he tries to see how unlikable he can be and almost how far he can push his audience, both in terms of dodgy material and of dragging out a single joke way past it's shelf life...somehow to the point where it starts being funny again that he's pushed it that far.

I do think however he's one of the bravest stand ups out there, as this clip of him playing in Glasgow will show, where he pretty much just solidly abuses Scotland for a good 15 minutes. :)

IT's all personal taste tho, I think the IT crowd is just as good as its spiritual sequels Father Ted and Black Books however, just perhaps stuck with not such a wide audience with the occasional tech humour.

Again tho, IT crowd isn't about computers, the same way Father Ted wasn't about priests, it's just about people and their ability to be really dumb.

Ha that is one of my favourite Lee bits. Where he is hanging off a rail defeated, lamenting the fact that the gurgling proles that make up the general public voted the combination of Del Boy + gravity as the funniest comedy moment of all time. The best stand up going I would happily kill a kitten for a chance to see him live.
