From the best-selling master of darkness...

Celebrated horror genius Garth Marenghi introduces his long-lost television project: a haunting medical drama set in Romford.

The best-selling writer is already known to hundreds as the creative force behind such classic chillers as The Ooze (can water die?), Afterbirth (a mutated placenta attacks Bristol) and Black Fang (rats learn to drive).

Darkplace was originally filmed in the 1980s and has since earned a cult reputation as one of the most terrifying and radical television programmes ever made.

Even now, Garth warns that the show, which he describes as an effort to radicalise men's minds, may prove 'too subversive, too dangerous, too damn scary'.

"...She was like a candle in the wind: unreliable."

"I've never exploded, but I know what it would be like. Don't ask me how - I just know."

Fantastic series, I'm tempted to buy myself another copy in case I wear the first one out.

To be fair the show is about three decades old :whistling:
Never found any of his books in the charity shops, looking for ages...

"Darkplace sums up television as we know it. By that I mean: to the untrained eye everything looks smooth, hugely entertaining, everyone looks good, you know, everything is tied up; the end. Yet the reality is far different; it was horrible to work on, I didn't get paid any money for it and to be honest I can't remember a thing about it now, and that's the way I hope it stays. Thank you very much."

What is sad is members who post their favourite lines from the show, lets face it the your in the minority if it was that popular channel 4 would have commisioned a 2nd series. you missed the best quote from Dean Learner "the show's a pile of poo and I've moved on to the IT crowd"

In my opinion this is some of the most genius comedy written in recent times.

Agreed, sadly. Remember when it first aired and it did seem promising. Unfortunately, it didn't have much to offer beyond that. Kinda like another comedy show that is inexplicably popular.

All reminds me of that time when I did something crazy with an 80s cultural reference.

Popularity is not always an indicator of a good comedy. This was heaven for people who grew up on bad horror movies and cheap pulp fiction, and was original and full of brilliant lines to boot. Unlike the wildly popular Catherine Tate Show and Little Britain.

Catherine Tate makes my eyes bleed.

Fact.

Each to their own. I watched again it a few days ago and it still makes me lol.

Besides, there could never have been a second series - it explains why in this series.

Although that other series that Ayoade and Holness did, well, that WAS pants.
