nice price, thanks
#2
What store was this?

Do you have a model number?
#3
hmm dell creeping into the shops first pc world now tesco
#4
Is this nationwide?
#5
Model number is shown in post GT 5056b, seen in Warrington (North West) and according to store staff it should be available everywhere as long as stock lasts.
#6
very good spec especially for that price! nice find, voted hot
#7
great price
here's a review from a year ago, compared against a dell funnily enough

Good CPU, decent sized HD, decent entry-level graphics cards (considering most cheap PCs have on-board) but I'd recommend anyone who buys this to get themselves another 1GB RAM. The description says DDR but I'd be surprised if it wasn't actually DDR2. This stuff is so cheap right now you could get another 1GB to take you up to 2GB for under £20.

According to the review above it is DDR2 and the tv tuner is a hauppauge card ....

SPECIFICATIONS:
1.86GHz Core 2 Duo E6300 • 1GB 533MHZ DDR2 RAM • Intel P965 motherboard • 250GB Western Digital Caviar SE hard disk • LG GSA-H11N DVD writer • Lite-On SHD-16P1S DVD ROM • Nvidia 7300 LE Turbo Cache graphics • Hauppauge WinTV-PVR-150 digital TV tuner • 56K modem • integrated 7.1 HD audio • 9-in-1 media card reader • 10/100 Ethernet stereo speakers • Windows XP MCE 2005 • Microsoft Works Suite 8.5 1yr RTB warranty

Looks like good value to me as I don't think I could build an equivalent system for that price. The hauppauge tv tuner is £58 from ebuyer in its own right and processor £111 from Novatech!

Rob

EDIT : Update the Hauppauge card is not a digital receiver, only analogue. Sorry for any confusion.
#10
It does seem to be good value - and I second the memory upgrade (which is cheap and easy).

Seems like a winner.
#11
Good price for a Media Centre PC - stick in an extra 1GB of memory though. Graphics card is pretty **** if you want to play games, so you might want to check what motherboard it has so you can see what replacement might be possible in the future.
#12
Really good price , shame the review says its only PCI Express 1x slot. Think that would impact on any attempts to upgrade the graphics.

Oops - misread it. Seems they are probably using the PCI-e 16 for the 7300. I assumed that was onboard! D'oh!

In that case - very good deal!

Seems a very good price for the spec, dedicated graphics and dual core

Try Crucial for good quality RAM at a fair price - http://www.crucial.com/uk/index.aspx

A 1GB upgrade for this machine comes out at £15.26 incl vat. And yes, it is DDR2.
#17
Nice my sister needs a new pc too!

Can anyone find the pc on Tesco website??

If you simply want to double up, I think a couple of these would be your best bet price wise on play...

Stunning price. Heat Added. Gonna look out for one tomorrow.

Could I just whack in my existing IDE hard drives into this and make it a cheap upgrade?
#21
This isn't bad at all, not Vista but that's probably even better, especially as XP media centre is a version of XP professional.

That would be far from straightforward.

UPDATE: In light of later posts, I should qualify "far from straightforward". I am assuming you mean you just want to put your old drive in, boot from it and keep all your existing software/config, just with better hardware.

It used to be possible to upgrade XP MCE to Vista - it was if you bought the PC before march 2007 but that was implemented through vouchers in the box that you sent off. So if they are old kit then maybe the upgrade is still in there
#25
Just looks like a regular pc with a remote and a tv tuner card, as far as I can see. Maybe useful as a cheap desktop pc, but there's no way I'd want that next to my tv!
#26
The upgrade vouchers may be there, but will have expired, as Microsoft only gave a 3 month window to upgrade.

I think the answer is yes, you could put at least one in easily. The article says there is one free disk bay. So is there an IDE connector to plug it into.

It doesn't say if there is a free IDE connector but the Lite-On DVD-ROM is an IDE model. This probably implies the DVD Writer is too. In the worst case, if the PC has only one IDE connector (meaning it can support up to 2 devices) you could just ditch the DVD-ROM (only real loss is it's slightly trickier to copy disks).

Beyond the first disk you could probably force a second in if you got a conversion bracket to fit it in the space for the DVD ROM, but if there wasn't a second IDE connection you would need to buy an IDE card. Personally at that point I'd be starting to think it made more sense to fit your other disks in external USB enclosures.

That list is from an old clearence page last year where this PC was listed at £399 - considering the OP bought his from Warrington (not listed) I suspect this list means little tbh.

Just looked in the custom PC magazine from february last year when they bench marked every CPU from £29 to £875, and they said It has incredible gaming and application performance, very overclockable, and energy efficient, the price of it in the magazine was £125.71 (Feb 07).
The PC PRO review says the computer only has 2 RAM slots, so would have to upgrade with 1GB memory stick.
Does anyone know if you could get any money/vouchers/points off it?
#32
I’v just been to the Newcastle Tesco Extra. They don’t have any in stock and the girl didn’t think they had had this model for a while. She also rang the North Shields branch who also didn’t have any. The impression I got was that this will probably be out of stock almost everywhere and the original post/find would have been a one off machine that had probably been lost at the back of a storeroom then discounted to clear. Good luck if anyone can find one though.

I believe the main disk in this is sata and the motherboard is capable of sata RAID. Therefore I'm not sure if there will be any spare IDE ports to use for your drive but it depends on the motherboard and what the DVD drives are using. Worst case you would need to buy a IDE pci card to use it or a usb caddy as someone already mentioned.

Just so everyone is aware the "Hauppauge WinTV-PVR-150 digital TV tuner " is analogue only, so when the analogue signal is switched off the card will be redundent. However it does have component in so it can record from other sources (i.e. other freeview boxes, sky, virgin, camcorder etc!).

Still a nice PC for £200 though!
#35
They have it in stock at the Milton Keynes (kingston) branch, but unfortunately its £299

So has anyone other than OP actually found one for £199???

no, i have called all the stores in the leicester region and nothing. got told to call tesco direct and they said that only the extra stores are cutting prices and that is only to make room for the dell take over. best thing to do is call your local stores and ask if they have any desktop pc's other than dell and then how much.

Thanks, Bluntside. Looking less likely that anyone else is going to get one of these... oh, well!

I missed that sorry for any confusion. It does have a mpeg2 hardware encoder though which will mean when recording off other sources it won't be loading the processor.
