The latest big bargain from is Gateway's 1.73GHz Core 2 Duo laptop, available for the netbook-beating price of £299.99. Looks to be a refurb, but considering the warranty, i wouldn't be too fussed, especially not at this price!

Good find, at this price it makes a great space saving desktop for general computer needs. Thanks.
Gateway and Bigpockets a match made in hell!
Gateway and Bigpockets a match made in hell!

Gateway have gone up in the world in the past few years, and since their re-introduction to the UK market again, they certainly seem to be able to produce decent machines.
Voted hot...excellent spec for pound notes
from my experience > not much support for their uk orientated product such as the ml6226b laptop
they dont reply to emails if you ring the customer service you have to wait ages until you give up:x

Gateway have got a good reputation in the US, not so sure here in Europe.
Back in the 90's id have said gateway were one of my fave companies to deal with.
But as is mentioned havent heard much from them for a long time.
but ... value for money here its awesome. hot!
It's a shame the screen doesn't have a greater resolution else this would be an insta-buy for me.
Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 950....

I would prefer Intel X3100 rather than GMA950.
beavisrules hot! hot! hot! hot! hot!...... hot!...... hot!
beavisrules STOP IT!!! My head hurts!!!!
Get a Mac.
Yean good value for money think im going to wait for a dell though when ive got some cash.
There is a review on the laptop its got just under 3 hours battery life and they say its no good for games but if you want to play games you dont buy a laptop!
This is in Bigpockets "As New Laptop" category, not the "Brand New Laptop" category. By my reckoning this must mean its REFURBISHED.
Just confirmed, this will take a full 4GB of memory, so running Vista HP64bit is perfectly doable on this machine! Would take the overall TCO to £350 but WOW would it be worth it!
Thanks for the post [B]timbo87. I've added a price and retailer name to the thread title.

I said this in the description

What's this comment got to do with the deal?

Why? Is it raining?

That was poor lol.
Macs are overpriced **** if you ask me. Oh ye... nice OS...I don't want to pay a fortune to run a "nice" OS! :D

Get a Mac.

Why? I just don't get it at all. Why would anyone want to learn to use a computer again? Wasn't it hard enough for us first time around? Look at how many people have Macs compared to 'ordinary' computers.
See? Just give up!
I know I'm 'feeding the troll' but they just get my back up!
Agreed, good spec and good price. But Gateway withdrew from the UK the last time times got tough - tough times here soon too. Likely to happen again, I think. Last time, all support was lost - I had paid for an additional 3 year warranty and lost most of this. I was amazed that Gateway returned to these shores. Give me Dell any time!
great price.. isint Gateway a part of Packard Bell, which is bought over by ACer.. !!! I believe that happened early this year.. PB bought Gateway, And Acer bought PB, so I think customer service might get better. I guess Acer dont have a good rep either, but they and ASUS seem to be the only 2 companies to provide worldwide warranty as standard.!!

Over all good price for product.. HOT!!
Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 950....

I would prefer Intel X3100 rather than GMA950.

If you wanna play games, then neither are suitable - so it's not really an issue ! Both will cope with whatever else you throw at them

Or a better solution is to get a PC and install OSX on it.

Brand new means brand new - as new doesn't
quiet like the look and spec of this for around the £300, anyone have any thoughts on how this Acer compares from ebuyer for similar price (athough ebuyer one is new with AMD cpu):
Well the acer has a slower processor, less ram and a smaller HDD. The only upside is that it as a real GPU, however i'd still get this.

Mac laptop with 17" screen for under 300 notes? lets hear about it then

LOL, apple would charge you £300 just to get it in black.
Just received mine this morning - unbeatable value for money - 17" screen with incredible resolution, runs the Vista Home Premium Aero desktop really well and seems very well put together. Caused incredulity in the office when I said it was only £300.

You don't get much with it - the box contains the laptop, a telephone lead for dialup internet, an RJ45 converter(!) and an Imation CD with the model number scrawled on in CD marker pen! The operating system is on a partition on the hard drive, leaving just over 100Gb free.

There is a note in the box that says it is a factory refurb but it does look (and smells!) like brand new. And a note about BigPockets - time from order to delivery was less than 24 hours!
Every review I've seen states that the keyboard is a little dodgy and not very tactile, so if you type a lot perhaps look elsewhere.
