I can't see it under the region free section. Only the Jap version is at that price
#3
Sorry where does it say region free? I am very suspiscious as Microsoft would never allow their games to be region free.

All i see is NTSC-J as in japan, i dont see it say anywhere suggesting its region free.

The link below does not state it works on pal so although £23 is awsome price im going to wait until its confirmed.

That's for the US version though, not Jap

It's very very unlikly that one with be region free and the other not

Thanks tsj. I've only ever bought region-free for the 360, but this game doesn't actaully say that.

Is it safe to assume that NTSC J is compatible on UK systems? I've read the definitions, and going on those alone, I wouldn't be too confident, or am I missing something (wouldn't be the first time)?

Any help gladly received.

Gary-Rip : Yeah i have had many region free ames from playasia too- but usually its UbiSoft, Sega and a handful of others that allow the games to be region free. Microsoft is not one of them.

Its not down to Microsoft, its down to the developer! Ive had many region free games from Play Asia!
#11
Really sorry to say this but no you cant safely assume NTSC J is compatible with UK systems. I suggest you steer clear until play-asia confirm it their end.
#12
It's best to wait until playasia confirms it rather then videogamesplus

As the US version maybe but the Japanese version could still be region protected.
#13
i have noticed some games allow you to play on both a Jap and US console, but NOT a European one.

So wait until PlayAsia confirm it can be played on a PAL system before you buy
#14
As others have said, it is worth waiting on this one. Only the US version is confirmed as region free, and the asian version could still be region locked.

You can pick up the US version from play asia though, but it is more expensive.

If you look just above the 'Product info', you'll see:

Location: Games > Xbox360™ > Games by Version >US Version Games > Gears of War

Not region free, at least, not the version linked to anyway.

Wrong.

It's down to the publisher, who in this case, is Microsoft.

Microsoft isn't the publisher - get your facts right. They licence the games they don't publish them!

Wiki
The option to apply a regional lockout to games is available to publishers

As you can see its plural - that is more than one publisher!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xbox_360

I do agree it is not the deleloper tho - i meant to say publisher.

Edit: Ignore the above - it seems i was confusing Microsoft and Microsoft Game Studio's - maybe i should check my facts lol!

The game has been developed by Epic and published by Microsoft Game Studios. A bit like Bungie developed the Halo series but it was/is published by Micro$oft Game Studios as well

So... is it region free then? i.e. can I purchase this to play on a UK Xbox 360?

Cheers

Short answer.....no.

To clear some misconceptions up, the US releases of GoW (LE and SE) are confirmed to be region free. This means that you can buy from an importer, get this game early and maybe even pay less compared to a PAL version. A lot of importers seem to be low on stock though, so might just be easier to wait for the PAL release. Movietyme have a good price though:

The Asian release seems to have a lot of people confused, as there seem to be 2 versions (Asian, and chinese) flying about, both of which come under the same flag but have different territorial lockouts by the looks of it. In short, THE ASIAN VERSIONS OF THIS GAME HAVE NOT BEEN CONFIRMED TO BE REGION FREE......YET.

In other news, Call of duty 3 and Tony Hawks Project 8 are both region free, and can be picked up from play-asia for the bargainous price of £25 delivered.
