Thanks rayman,

But once again does anyone know if this supports long file names?

Also can the firmware be updated to support newer divx compressions?

It does have an HDMI connection. You can see it if you look at the image gallery at Ebuyer

Hehe :) I like the quote, but would rather look a fool for asking a little question, than have a non HDMI DVD player sitting next to an HDTV and feeling a fool for not asking lol Thanks for the feedback all too.

Firmware should be upgradeable and the Yamada branded non HDMI version of this player I have, doesn't appear to have any problems with long file names. Plays everything just great and the picture quality is very good via SCART also. HDMI should be excellent if that's anything to go by.

Wouldn't call it a stupid question, i was about to ask it myself!

The Dabs site doesn't mention it has an HDMI connection in the specification and i don't think its immediately obvious to go to ebuyer, find the same product and look at an image of the connectors to find out it does have HDMI!

Good find though, voted hot!

There are plenty of people in the buying world who've been caught out by a wrong photograph being published, sometimes to purposely catch the fools.
Always concentrate on the text and reference number, worth a lot more if it goes wrong.

I looked at this deal yesterday when it was on sale from ebuyer and decided to do some research into the machine.
My first stop was the Eltax website.

This dvd player is a fake! It is stated on the Eltax website that this model is not made by them and is a cheap imitation using their name.
Please use the link to check

Interesting and might be something that should be put to Dabs.

Any word from Dabs on this fake issue ?

this has confirmed my thoughts about dabs of late.

I emailed them last week and pointed out the link to the Eltax website and the warning about fakes - no reply

I then put a comment in the reviews section of the product with a link to the elatx website - and surprise surprise it has not been posted

....and dabs still quote

"Eltax is known around the world for reliability, credibility and innovation. These focus areas form the core values of the company - now and in the future. Eltax A/S is a leading European manufacturer and distributor of high quality hi-fi loudspeakers, professional loudspeakers, home entertainment systems and In Car Entertainment products."

reference to Eltax A?S in the same page as dodgy fake DVD players is really not on from dabs

time to email Eltax.....

I too put a comment with the link that skywalker posted. No sign of that, either.
I think they need to issue some kind of statement to deny this claim or withdraw the product.

I've just taken delivery of the Scan offer detailed earlier... and guess what?
Its the "Eltax" DV 254!
Not sure what to do now after reading this!

Mind you the unit looks ok, though there was no HDMI lead supplied.

Not tried it out yet either.:?

Credit to Skywalker07 for the info.

Clicks on expired.

Expired it.

Another side of this, is that Eltax become a well known brand. Thanks all for the feedback. Please keep it updated.
