4 to 6 weeks.

Are you sure you want to trust 160GB of your data to a 'generic' disk?
#3
Generic. LOL. Wonder which manufacturer is behnd this "generic" drive? Sounds like it might be a badly chosen company name though.

I agree with mrbill, it is probably only worth considering if you enjoy rebuilding PC's/restoring data on a regular basis.

Don't know about Amazon but when Maplin have advertised 'Generic' drives in the past they've tended to be WD models.
#5
Generic doesn't necessarily mean you'll get an unbranded HDD. It's likely that it will be one of the branded ones, they just don't guarantee WHICH brand HDD they'll ship.

4 to 6 week delivery at Amazon often means that you will not get the item, I have had 2 cancelled in the past.

I now only order items in stock.
#7
Can you actually get unbranded HD's? Another way of looking at this is if you buy an external unit, you have NO idea whatsoever what it contains until you connect it up to your PC. Does that stop people buying external drives.....

I've order a cd and dvd both at 4 to 6 weeks delivery and they came back into stock and I got them slightly earlier.

As for unbranded drives, I thought these were Samsung, But as said, I doubt if they are 100% unbranded (Such as Amazon's own make etc.)

will this work on PS3 ?
#10
No, that needs sata, and laptop sata at that.
#11
4 to 6 weeks is ridiculous so I'm voting cold, sorry. Its a reasonable price but no better than what was around when google-checkout was on, and then you had the advantage of knowing exactly what you were buying and it was in stock.

fairly basic then...but at least it's a recognised manufacturer...albeit one I am not that fond of having had maxtor failures int past....mind that was quite a few years back so hopefully their reliability is far better today.

That's decent, I guess. Could have been ExcelStor...

Maxtor is now owned by Seagate (Who i've never had a faliure with), So hopefully the quality of the drives are better than they used to be.

This is now in stock, 2 reviews suggesting these are Maxtor Diamondmax 21's with 3 years warranty, Not even factory refurbs.

(Sorry for the bump but seeing as its in stock its worth bumping!)
#18
Good value if anyone wants to do a HD upgrade on their DigiFusion FVRT100 freeview PVR.
#19
Would this be OK to slot into my Sky+ box? TIA!
#20
2mb cache is pretty basic these days, given most have a minimum of 8mb, or 16mb, and newer ones have 32mb.

I can confirm that, I got my two last week and they are both factory sealed brand new Diamondmax 21

Appear to retail at £30-£32 elsewhere...plus shipping, of course. Hot deal.

Recieved my Maxtor stm3160215a 7200rpm 2mb cache over the weekend so tried upgrading my Amstrad SKY+ box, kinda worked, but the 2nd line in signal wouldnt work :( so I could only record what I was watching...

Then I put the old drive in and I had to do a master reset with the OLD drive to get it working again :(
