Just for people's reference.

The PA12 is the ~65w power adapter.

It's fine for charging and powering the lower end laptops.

More power hungry laptops and those with docking stations may need the PA10 ~90w.

Technical stats of PA12:
OUTPUT: DC 19.5V 3.34A

Technical stats of PA10:
OUTPUT: DC 19.5V 4.62A

I have just bout one for my dell @ the following
http://www.notebook-batteries.co.uk/notebook-battery.php/1-t92713-inspiron%206400-battery

They come from Singapore, but seem ok although slightly underpowered to listed

Does anyone know where you can find a 90W U.S. adapter for a Dell laptop? Either that or a travel surge protector, but one where the part that plugs into U.S. outlets has three prongs instead of two (three has better grounding)?
#10
heat and rep for this deal. it's official dell parts and they normally be so expensive.

I got one from battery.co.uk for £60. Not cheap, but it worked just as well as the original (until I caned the new one too).

Just finished with my 6400 - 4 years, 3 batteries and thousands of hours of work. Great laptop.

Wish this was a 90W PSU - got a few 65's and not pokey enough for my new XPS16... oh well. H&R anyway - is a good price.
#13
Bargain. My sister recently paid £29 for one of these at a shop near us (told her she was ripped off).

I think you might find that even on UK power supplies, the Earth is not connected as it is not required when using SMPS technology

I might be wrong, but I am sure other HDUK users will let me know

When I travel to the US, I have a standard UK Dell Power supply, and then I have a UK 4 way extension with a US mains connector fitted to it, now I can power all my gadgets :-)
#15
It appears to also be compatible with the basic Vostro range also...... :)

Thanks just ordered i was looking at cheap ones on ebay this morning for a 10er. Def sooner pay the extra for a original charger

Right there at the linked seller !
They've got the genuine 9-cell unit (extended life of up to 5 hours) for just £59 all in - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Dell-Inspiron-9-Cell-Battery-Genuine/dp/B000UV38M6/

Does this fit the dell inspiron 6400? Over the last 3 years have had 3 power adapters and each time after a while they have failed to charge, solely only working when permanently plugged in to lap top.

I have a XPS M1330, wondering if this charger would suffice even though it should be the 90W. I mean, would it still charge the laptop, just a little slower?

Whats wrong with this for £13.25 delivered, as seen on page for above. Its identical, and a few pennies cheaper.

Mod edit Link removed, sorry but Amazon marketplace deals are not allowed on HUKD.

Anyone?

My 1330 came with a 65w as standard (PA-21) and works just fine. Wondering if I can us this to replace it? mine has a hex plug at laptop end but i assume a round plug will aslo fit.

This will work fine with a M1330, I use one with mine all the time.

Should charge it when it's off. Will either refuse to completely start up like my d810 does when on the dock, or run in reduced mode.

My D810 spec:

Pentium M 2.1
2GB DDR2
60GB 7200rpm
ATI X300
1920x1200 panel.

But remember that is just my experience with this laptop, and it may be completely different for you.

If your up for the risk, buy it, and if it doesn't work, exercise your DSR rights?
#26
hi guys i use a inspiron 6400 and bought this as the plug which goes into the laptop is bent on my one so does not always charge.
I see people are looking for a new battery. I bought 1 on ebay for about £30 and its perfect... laptop lasts around 3 hours

Yes the 65W works fine with the M1330 - I sometimes take my 65W charger from my 11z with me when travelling as it is smaller and lighter. I know some Dell laptops won't boot with the 65W charger connected - happened to a colleague who had picked up the wrong charger when he went on business and thought his laptop was dead!

got mine today, except they have sent a PA-10 (90w model), no bad thing i guess, hope it doesnt kill my 1330 though!

My charger is 65W, and I'm thinking of getting this for my Vostro 1000 (cheapest battery I could find). Does anyone know if they will work together

edit:
I was looking at the second one on that page, lower down. Assuming it's longer lasting?

The cheapest battery you can find, will usually have the shortest life you can find ! It's not a very good way to buy batteries :-D Unfortunately, "optimistic" capacities are very common indeed.

Thanks for the advice, I think I will take it and go for a genuine dell battery that have seen to go with this charger -thanks OP.

Lots of my company's Dell original batteries have worn out within a year so I wouldn't blindly assume that an "official" battery is the best choice - I think I would rather buy a non-Dell branded battery for less than half the price and replace it when necessary. I've had a non-Dell replacement battery in my XPS M1330 for 6 months now and it is still charging to full capacity with 0% wear.
