Does any-one know why these cards etc have been pulled from dealextreme and focal prices web sites, they were so cheap..
#2
For those just wanting card for ds and not dsi think http://www.bmemorycards.co.uk/products/R4-DS-Card-With-Kingston-2GB-MicroSD-Memory-Card.html is worth a look as it comes with 2gb card for a total of 11.25 delivered
#3
They've been pulled from places like deal extreme because the one's they used to sell were fake and R4 have threatened with action if they do not stop selling them.
#4
Anyone know if these work with the DSI XL?

The screen on my DS is messing up so thinking of getting an XL when it does finally give up.
#5
They still sell them at Dealextreme i ordered 1 last month for my daughters Dsi XL you have to search by product code take a look here http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/deal-discussion/986012

I use the Dstti Advance card for my daughters XL with no problems.

good to see working again as they were fully removed a few days ago

Ordered one from 7day and it didn't work. Nice company to deal with issued a working replacement as soon as I sent it back.
#12
is this made by the original r4 team?
#13
How come its ok to post a deal for these but not sell them on here?

just wondering?
#14
DSTT are the best, better than R4, ive used these many times and never paid over £5 from deal extreme...
#15
Not keen on the R4 clones anymore, hardly any new game works without a patch (and even the patch doesnt fix it half the time). Bought an AK2i the other day and it seems a ton better, even the UI is a lot smoother.
#16
I read somewhere that most R4s are fakes and have flooded the market!!! 5% of R4 cards are authentic..
#17
i paid like £19 for 5 of these from dealxtreme

they are dstti's with renamed files
i run the unofficial dstti firmware on them
they are nice cards but dont go paying £10 for a clone of a clone

a company that makes a device for pirating DS games suing? I am pretty sure R4 was never actually a trademark.

I very much doubt you can back this up, I think its more likely that DX were afraid of legal action from Nintendo.

Ive had 2x r4 and 1 xDSTT, both r4 works 100% (both clones). DSTT didnt work! all around a 5iver!
#25
Wouldn't touch these if you paid me.

R4 'went under' and stopped producing them, it's a total mess around trying to get these to support the right files. Not really worth it for what you save.
#26
go a little bit extra and get urself an acekard 2i. i got one few weeks back and it works great n easy to use and great support, only recently got an update. works on ds lite/ dsi and dsi xl. to date all new games are working for me!!
#27
I thought nobody developed for the R4 anymore hence why people have flocked to carts like Acekard and EDGE.

The reason that deal extreme stopped selling R4 cards, is because they were threatened with legal action by Nintendo, they now sell them from another site called price angels. Claims of genuine R4DS units should be taken with a pinch of salt because of the split of the original R4 team in 2008 that resulted to former team members creating their own version of the R4 each varying in quality. I have used R4i cards (1.4 version) from deal extreme and 7 day shop all of which have worked fine

As someone who makes their living from writing software, I think it's pretty disgraceful that HotUkDeals promotes software piracy. And don't give me this nonsense about using them for homebrew.
#30
I personally don't care if people buy these, but I agree they should not be allowed as deals on here. Of all the deals they don't allow e.g. deals from Amazon merchants, they allow something that is used solely for piracy. Maybe one of the mods has a DSi..

I have decided to get a acekard 2i, have had r4 and dstt and both had problems playing latest games, so will give this a try.

I spend my hobby time writing homebrew software. Why should i and many others suffer because of your childish attitude? Surelyit's down to the manufacturers - they should realise that there is a large market for homebrew and emulation, and cater to that market accordingly, WITHOUT compromising legitimate bought games.

Oh sorry, it's because there's nothing in it for them. Silly me forgot that.

I'm fed up with the "software piracy" thing. Yes it's rife, and Yes it should be stopped. However it's down to the manufacturers not being bothered. If they added the ability to run this code, there would be no need for any of these devices, and therefore the "legitimacy" would be removed.

As for it being "disgraceful that UKHD promotes software piracy", it's a deal and thats what these boards are for. Get over it.

It's the industry, and more primarilly the manufacturers that are at fault. I suggest you go lobby them, since they could easilly remove this "threat".

Get one whilst you can, from what I've seen there has been a real crackdown on these and a lot less sellers. Got one at this price a week ago after no stock for a month or two.

"UKHD"? Waddat? "HUKD" perchance?

Whenever a manufacturer introduces measures to tackle software piracy it is a challenge for the "community" to beat the protection & the individual who releases a crack first gains kudos amongst their peers.

Like you said, it is a fact of life that these practices exist. How, or why, the owners of HotUKDeals feel they can justify the existence of such deal listings but not allow classified advertisements for the same equipment is not something I can answer.

What the manufacturers should do, however, is employ some of the community members who actively pursue the goal of cracking the newly introduced protection to implement software protection in future releases of their hardware &/or software.

...or just simply reduce the price of retail software enough that most people will not begrudge paying for their products instead of downloading them for free.

This will not happen though as the highest profit margins are in the ongoing software costs after the purchase of the initial hardware so it is in the organisation's best interests to keep the prices at levels where profits are maximised. Shareholders need to be kept in the manner to which they have become accustomed.

To come back to the point about making "homebrew" (amateur software development rather than "pirated" software) in-built in the products & available to the masses rather than just to those who buy a software development kit licence (or "license" depending on your region), starting an amateur software development programme or holding a software development competition amongst the public would generate more sales than having a few celebrities advertising the handheld consoles by looking clever working out a few primary school age arithmetic questions.

The development software (maybe not as advanced as Sony's [original] PlayStation-based Net Yaroze project in 1997 that required dedicated physical products) could be provided in a digital delivery channel for a limited time & would expire after a certain period to counteract usage for other methods thereafter (or would only allow software developed on that particular console to execute on that console).

The best efforts from the public could then be voted upon by everybody else to provide an indication to the commercial software developers & software publishers where the public's affinities lay for future titles. The winner(s) [in different categories] of the competition could be offered full-time development roles.

The potential for gain to the industry would far outweigh the risk of allowing more piracy to continue. Those that have the knowledge to take the competition's software development suite & use it for their own means probably would have worked around the next iteration of software protection anyway.

So you think people in my industry should lose their jobs so that you can have a laugh writing homebrew software? Thats down to your conscience I guess.

And I am sorry that you feel that me being concerned over my job, and the jobs of my colleagues in the industry, as being childish!

Or perhaps people should enjoy things within their means, instead of ripping people off? I want a Ferrari. I can't afford one, but by your logic I should just go out and steal one because they've priced them too highly.

These things are illegal in many countries, and for good reason!

Please re-read when I typed. I did not agree with or suggest anybody should engage in software piracy.

So your saying people should pay 30 quid for a game that has been re released over and over on a portable system? Don't make me laugh.
