Swwwweeeet! Genuine Xbox 120GB Hard Drive for 35.99!

To get it for 38.33 choose Royal Mail Recorded but you can choose other ways.

Ordered a router off these guys a few weeks back so very reliable and they are genuine Brand new drives but OEM without the transfer cable but you can a transfer cable from Amazon for about £10

EDIT: just noticed this was on HUKD a while ago but price is cheaper now!

EDIT: Apparently you don't need a transfer cable anymore and you can just use a compatible USB stick. Any one know what ones work?

Second hand from a market place seller tho?

Do you still need the transfer cable with the latest xbox update?
#5
Super hot deal, and now with the 360 offering USB support you don't need the transfer cable.

Anyone know if this is possible:

I want to open up my Xbox HDD case, take an image of the 20GB HDD (using external case), restore image on to a larger HDD (~60-80GB), put it back in the the HDD case.

Will that work on my Xbox 360? I don't want to pay for more stuff when I have at least 3 60GB Sata laptop HDDs lying around.

Q - the link takes you to "Genuine Microsoft Xbox 360 Elite 120GB" product, why is the word "Elite" there?

Because it's black rather than grey.

As far as I know it wont work... all of the xbox hard drives use a proprietary file or firmware on the drive that identifies it as an official drive, and the xbox operating system itself is hard-coded only to accept drives of a particular capacity... even if you did manage to get it working (and trust me people have tried) it is likely that your xbox would be banned in the next xbox liveban-hammer event if micorosoft managed to detect the tampering.

A cheeky work around (do a google) is to format an external HDD as an apple drive, the xbox detects it as an ipod and lets you sun media off it.

I'm fairly certain it's not possible. The 360 HDD is formatted in a peculiar way, it's not visible as a normal drive. I had to have such a battle with my hard drive firmware just to get it to be recognised. My own fault for buying an empty shell and a 250Gb drive! :whistling:
#11
You need a specific drive for a DIY upgrade - google around and you'll find which drives work. Chances are the ones you have lying about don't work.
#12
I'd quite like to get a 250GB and trade in my 120GB, they fill up so fast with game installs

Edit: fanboy comment quoted from other person gone.

Thanks for this op. If it helps one person, then great :)

Bought one of these when they were around £48 (I think). Just got around to transferring all my data across.

In case any one's interested, here's how I did it (without the data cable).

1. Get a memory stick (the bigger the better. Wipe it before using it) and plug it into a USB port on your Xbox 360.
2. Go to System > Memory > (Your current hard drive)
3. Press Y (I think) to choose "Transfer data", then move as much data as you can onto the memory stick.
(ALWAYS MOVE THE PROFILES LAST as you need them on the old hard drive to access some of the data)
4. Turn off the Xbox 360 and swap your old hard drive for the new one.
5. Power on and go System > Memory > (The removable drive - USB memory stick).
6. Press Y again to transfer data, then move it to the new Hard drive.
7. Turn off the Xbox 360 and swap the drives back.

Repeat this as many times as necessary to get all data across, finishing with the profiles.

I used a 4Gb memory stick so it took 4-5 transfers to get everything across, but works like a charm :-)

I'm sorry I just don't see how it is a good deal atall. Maybe relatively its a good deal considering how much of a rip off it is. But in absolute terms its not

We all know Microsoft products are overpriced, but try getting this hard drive cheaper, you can't! Hence Hot

cheers.

Another Q - as I have an Arcade version I take it I don't need a transfer cable - correct?

Yikes.. I won't be buying from them, wouldn't risk it after reading this, thanks very much.

Still want to know if this is the piece of kit my son is after though so that I can purchase from elsewhere.
#22
Hmmm...those seller reviews are putting me off to be honest. Anyone on here had any dealings with this seller?

yes this is what he is after. you can download hundreds of trial versions of games free and this is what you would store them on. but you can also use any usb sticks up to 16Gb as well which might give you a cheaper way of trying this out? This one is £18 for example (or cheaper if you have any MacDonalds vouchers from their Monopoly promotion):

No free games here unfortunately! For "free games" (i.e. pirate software) a hard drive is required, but so is soldering and "chipping" of the console. Beside it's illegal, and of course, can't be discussed here.

The XBox hard-drive is used (in legit terms at least) for storing (paid for) programs, music, videos and games. It can also be used to "install" games to make them load faster on the console. Hope this helps!

As an aside, what does the OP mean by "genuine OEM". OEM implies Original Equipment Manufacturer - i.e. NOT Microsoft.

I'm not doubting that this is a reliable / cheap drive but don't expect a bulletproof Elite Hard Drive like one might buy from Amazon / Game etc...
#25
Voted hot, even diy price is higher AFAIC T for that size of drive, but obviously there are issues with the trader.
Alternatively diy:
http://www.ebuyer.com/search?q=WD2500BEVT&x=20&y=19 for about £40, then http://www.dealextreme.com/search.dx/search.25939 for $9.81 (about £6) total £46 but for a 250gb drive.
Drive needs to modified to be recognised by xbox.
Dealextreme are very slow to deliver.

The drives are taken from Elite consoles. I got one a few months ago (thread on here somewhere) and thought I'd got a second hand one since it had content on. I emailed to enquire. Turns out the content is there because it is preloaded for the Elites (it was just game demos and things). This was confirmed by other hotuk users.

Bought one of these in February for around £45, couldn't fault the company.
#28
Give it a miss! I bought a Philips streamer from them a couple of years ago and the remote was missing. I emailed them about 5 times over 4 months. They never bothered to sort it out so we never used them again. I never did get the remote either.

Yes it's the trial games he was talking about. The other cheaper alternative sounds good bit I always worry that I won't be able to get these things up and running.. in my house, everything technical is considered my job to sort out (40yr old woman ) my young husband and teenage son are bloody clueless!! (or can't be bothered!).. :-D

What are you on about? If you look around you can find bad reviews about any company but from the looks of it last time this deal was up they sold loads and no bad comments posted.

Guess your username says it all !!

No wonder your user name is Mr Cynical. I'm sure if you search any company then you can find a bad review on them, by the looks of it the last time this deal was up they must have done something right because I can't find any bad comments on that thread or the router thread when I used them last.

If you got nothing good to say then don't troll peoples post

Hmmmm.... joined in April 2010 and only EVER posted on the two deals associated with THIS company?!?! A cynical mind would suggest self promotion

Reporting to mods to let them make a decision, its just too damn coincidental for me :whistling:
#33
Thanks for the deal, ordered one earlier, hoping it arrives ok now! Been wanting to upgrade my 360 for a while
#34
Are these the chinese clone HDD's.

There is nothing wrong with them so if you wanna order go ahead guys.
#35
I've bought from this company before, no problems. [plus a friend as well]

Even if there was, that's what your credit card company is for - get them to do a chargeback if they don't play ball - simple :)

I've ordered one. Many thanks OP.

H&R added

I am a PS3 owner and not planning to buy a X360 ever
But this is absolutely a fantastic company, all their networking stuff are very professional, well priced and normally dispatch same day, never had a problem with them
Not long ago they priced a linksys incorrectly (lower than half) its been posted here, they honored all the orders before changing the price :w00t:
Never had a faulty stuff for years so cant comment on their customer service

+They now accept paypal, I dont see how they can possibly cheat.

LOL no soldering and "chipping" is required ;) things changed in the last 2 years...+ whatever you do with your console - its your own business ;) what are you using it for - its a different thing ;)

get your facts straight ;)

Don't know about that...I got "dash of destruction" for free :D

If I've already got an Xbox Elite, can I plug one of these in to take me up to 240 gig total or is it solely for use with Xbox Arcades ?

For gaming use, i.e., installs to HDD, you can only use one hard disk at a time, so no cumulative storage for games. You can use up to a 16GB thumb drive in addition to any regular drive you have on top of the machine only for game installs.

To use this drive, you'd have to transfer data from your old drive.

However, a regular USB HDD can be used to store music and films etc, and that is limited only to how big your drive is.
