Removable plates an excellent feature. I know it's not difficult to clean the fixed plates but it is an awful job.

I bought one of these earlier in the year, and would advise everybody to steer clear.

In principle, the removable plates are a great idea... However, in reality they don't give as even a temperature distribution as the fixed-plate models, meaning that this model tends to burn one part of your food before the other part is even cooked through.

I know the removable plates seem like a great idea, but I would strongly advise everybody to think twice about this model.

Top tip for cleaning non=removable plates (be careful not to burn yourself though if you need to move the grill) - position the grill over the edge of the sink (so everything runs into the sink WHEN JUST TURNED OFF, then use a cloth to drizzle water over the lower plate - this will almost completely clean the lower grill with no scrubbing at all! The top part also easily rubs clean with a damp cloth.

Bingo. In fact while it is warm a single piece of Bounty will often do.

If cooled, edge of the sink, warm water and sponge is adequate. The coating is very good and will stay that way for years or until you are tempted to use an abrasive pad.

I just can't quite make out the sizes. I want to replace my brillo happy friends Junior (you know the one with the bun warmer). Which is the most similar, except without the never used bun warmer.

Sooo, which model would you people suggest for 2 to 4 people? Thanks ;o)

Depends what you are cooking. These can do a reasonable job of chicken breast if the thickness of the meat is about right.

For anything else, use conventional cooking equipment.

The only problem I find with most of the GF grills is the lack of heat control.
My one has it seems two settings: Off, and cremate.

I'd recommend a variable heat control version personally.

I laughed so much at 'two controls, off and cremate'

And my cautionary tale is to watch out for the aluminium plates that are underneath the removable plates.

I sliced my finger badly when cleaning the edge of these (as they do occasionally get some splash and drip on them), and when I wrote to Salton UK they basically said it must have been my fault and they've sold 1,000's without complaint.:x

So they didn't even acknowledge that the gap between this plate and the main body was big enough for the thin gauge metal to be a possible hazard.

I also think that the heat distribution is poor, we cook 8 bangers at once and have to swap them around every 5 minutes as one side cooks much quicker than the other.

Trouble is that even with this 'fault' all the other brands are worse - I've tried both Rosemary Conley grills and Anthony Worrall Thomson grill (Breville?), and both their non-stick coatings came off well within 12 months use - at least the George Foreman (Salton UK Ltd) brand last longer on that front.

NB for £25 it is quite small, mine is this bigger one for a bit more (depends on what you class '3 portion' and '4 portion' )
