Amazon UK have 60% off this top of the range Gerber multi-tool, making it a must have at this price for those who like and use multi-tools (the 'cheaper' version without the hex adaptor toolkit is still £68.46!).

Gerber vs. Leatherman is a quasi-religious debate for many - I have several of each, and like both, but would draw your attention to three particularly notable features of this Gerber model:

- Hex Adaptor toolkit and bits, letting you use any 3rd-party hex screwdriver bits;

- Saw blade adapter that takes standard replaceable 2.5" jigsaw saw blades;

- One handed opening with a flick of the wrist (i.e. not a butterfly opening - handles are parallel when jaws closed so easier to get into tight spaces).

It's Gerber model no. 07564, made/assembled in the USA. Product page here:

Free delivery with Amazon Prime or Amazon Supersaver. There are two reviews on the Amazon UK site:

Thirteen mostly positive reviews on Amazon.com too:

Beautifully designed tool, but please anyone say what they've used them for.

I've had a Leatherman Wave for 2 years and barely needed to remove it from the case.

Nice. Heat added.

On a side note, are you aware of any deals on the Leatherman Squirt P4 apart from the one below?

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Leatherman-LT62-GB-Squirt-Multi-Tool/dp/B000PIX0B8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=diy&qid=1241219875&sr=1-1

I'd like to buy one but would rather not pay in the £40's to be honest.

The Gerber Clutch model, similar to the Squirt P4, was on a few weeks back with a nice LED AAA torch for £14.97 from Amazon. Last I looked it was at £19 something - still reasonable value. It's made in China, so isn't as slickly finished as the USA Gerbers and Leatherman (things like the fingernail notches being stamped rather than ground out), but the blade is nice and wicked sharp.

For every day snipping etc. I have a Leatherman Micra - the Squirt version that I hanker after (at a sensible price) is the E4 model - which has a wire stripper jaw rather than the S4 scissors or P4 pliers, so if anyone has seen that for less than £30 let me know!

I got one in the Next sale after Christmas for £10. It's good for that price, not sure I'd have been pleased if I'd paid £40.

Ah well, I hope those of you that got them (quite a few I guess, since there's only one left showing in stock) enjoy them - I've really been quite taken by the one I got - it's a nice complement to my small collection of these gadgets (it might sound silly to spend money on these, but I like them, and to me it's not as silly as spending a fortune on concert tickets or £100 on jeans or trainers or whatever :)) - I really like the changeable saw blade and also the included Hex Bit Adapter (which costs £13 for Leatherman tools and seems difficult to get in the UK - I had to get mine via ebay from the US)..

Was that online or in-store? I haven't been in Next for years, and it would never occur to me to visit (sadly I'm a bit on the large size for their idea of the range of human waist sizes!), but if they sell items like this and knock them out so cheap in their sales I might make the effort to stick my head through their door again.

Edit: I realise now it was the Squirt you got for a tenner, rather than the Gerber (as I originally thought) - my questions re. Next still stand though!).

Have you tried that internet auction site famous for selling forgeries?

That was where I got my Leatherman that was £99 here for about £30 sent from that sad land who torture people and have weapons of mass destruction against civilians.

It was genuine but over rated.

The small screwdriver which was only used working on PCs, and installing wiring into sockets/switches/fittings (the small brass grub screws) broke at the end - and each blade had a nasty habit of folding in on itself when in use.

But it did have a corkscrew which is pretty essential but rare.

I got it from the Directory Sale, not sure if it was sold in stores too.

Pleased to hear it. What do you think of it? Thank you also for taking the time follow-up and say thank you - I appreciate the feedback :thumbsup:

P.S. I don't like the sheath much - am not sure what sheath would be best for the tool and the toolkit bits that come with it.
