A few things I would like to say about this tool. It is NOT legal to carry outside your property in the UK due to the locking blade.

Also it isnt fantastic quality (not bad, its better than most). A leatherman tool will almost always outperform this guy. The leatherman will however cost more but you could get a UK legal carry Leatherman that will last you a lifetime for about £10-£15 more.

Its a nice looking tool and will probably purchase anyway as I have a good few leatherman tools and would like to see how this stands up.

It's a good piece of kit, bought one a few years back for work. Thrall is right though it is illegal to carry this is public as it has a locking blade

It is illegal to carry in public without good cause. There are still legitimate reasons to carry such knives in public without breaking the law.

What does it matter if it's locking, in the eyes of the law? You could just as easily stab someone with a standard Swiss army knife - can't see a difference personally...

    EDIT:
I just did a bit of research and it turns out there is absolutely no logical reason behind this - merely a lawyer once said since the blade is locked, it is effectively a fixed blade. More legal stupidity...

Also, you can carry them around 100% legally:
    1. for use at work;
    2. for religious reasons; or
    3. as part of any national costume.

But, you can't for self defence. So if you ever get mugged/attacked, just think "I'm glad I didn't break the stupid law by defending myself, shame I'm dying now"...

Either way it is illegal.....Remember that when your getting shoved into the old jail because you thought it was usefull.

It's for you to justify why you have it in a public place though. If you're "at work" in a public place whilst in possession then that's ok, if your on your days off and have it on you because you use it in your job, then no it's not okay. Work isn't the only justification though, being in a remote place camping would be a reasonable excuse.

The logical reason for it being illegal is its easier to stab someone with a locked blade than one that folds away, hense being more dangerous

I bought one of these a few years back, great tool to leave in the car, you can then use it around the office too.

Bizzarely it is also illegal to have a locking blade stored in your car. In the eyes of the law your car is a public place when on the road.

I've got one of these and i prefer it to an old leathermans i had. The only downside i found was that the blade needs frequently sharpening.

As for the legality, its got to be totally random/depends on who you ask as you could quite easily stab someone with a pen.

Good price, but as some have already mentioned, it's not as good as a Leatherman (we used to sell both brands and the amount of Gerbers we had back damaged/broken was shocking) but this is still much better than the cheap multi tools out there.

Well said SD. I'd happily stab someone in the throat if I were being attacked, with a knife, a pen or whatever came to hand. I wouldnt carry one mind you, but yet again the law fails us.

If you are over 30 and aren't hanging around on street corners late at night then I think it is unlikely that you will get arrested, and even less likely prosecuted, for having a multitool on your person. I don't think that police go around looking to put decent people in jail, increase their paperwork and damage their crime figures. If anyone knows of any precedent of middle aged men getting thrown in jail for carrying a multi-tool then I will take back what I said. I am not trying to be facetious, I honestly think that the police are far too busy to worry about things like this. If you do plan to stab someone then you will probably get a longer sentence for using this than a swiss army knife, though.

I have one of these gerber suspension tools. The are an absolute bargain compared to leatherman. If you are in the wilderness and your life depended on it working then I would buy something more expensive but around the house this is perfect.

tell that to the old guy who got arrested cutting a apple with his knife.

Thanks for posting, looks a good deal.
To add to the discussion, apparently the statistics show that many people are stabbed with their own knife by somebody else and that this is the best reason for not carrying one.

Suspect that's people in a rather different situation to the average poster on here.

I do have a locking swiss army knife which I use for work that may be on me generally - having spoke to a friend in the police, it shouldn't be an issue as I do have legitamate reasons etc. Wouldn't want to use it for 'self defence' really anyway - is useful to generally have and appreciate the locking blade, though need to get it sharpened now (seen a lot of use since 09 when I got it.)

Saw something recently on a certain social networking site about a guy who got stopped in his van on his way home from work and spent a night in the cells for having a stanley knife in his pocket. Bit crazy as he was clearly in his skivvies and in works van. End of the day, it's still illegal to have a locking blade on your person. A reminder if you do use these sort of things for work, don't carry it on your person after you've finished...

A bit off-topic but thought it was slightly relevant.

Ordered one of these anyway :)

I was bought one of these as a present recently - it's really good quality and not too heavy either.
