Thanks - no idea why I could not get it to work...

Nicely made kit Gerber.....prefer Leatherman personally but for the money this looks good.

You might want to consider this also, bought this as a gift a while back and the lock knife is a really nice addition usually around £15 as a stand alone product, comes with carry pouch for your waist belt and really nice leather-look presentation box and lid, the Ripstop multi tool has all the same bits and bobs as this post.

Isn't the blade short enough not to be an issue?

No, having a locking blade in a public place (without a legitimate reason) can get you a prison sentence.

Didn't know that, not that I'd randomly be carrying one of these around in a public place anyway. I presume if you were camping etc that would be a legitimate reason?

Wow, in that case the police could clear the streets in my town....Ambleside in the Lake District!

Mind you that would cut down on congestion, walkers, campers etc...maybe not such a bad law
#14
By complete co-incidence the police specifically refer to the Lake District in their guidance on knives!

I need a new one of these after I had to hand mine over at the airport - was caught in lining of bag so did not realise it was their.

Anyone recommend anything between the ones suggested on here.....

Yes, sadly it is true because this Gerber has a locking knife. Yet a Victorinox swiss army knife can be carried legally because the blade doesn't lock. Absolutely stupid law because you could stab somebody just as easily with a Victorinox as you could with a Gerber or Leatherman.
I've stopped carrying my expensive Leatherman because of this dumb law and now carry a swiss army knife instead.

re: "Great Christmas present!" Can we not have that written for every single post please. Most things would be a great Christmas present to somebody, so stop stating the obvious! :);)

As you could with an ordinary kitchen knife. Bizarre law.
#23
If someone is going to carry a blade to use as a weapon they will carry it anyway, this law wont stop them. Also they are hardly going to spend £30 plus on a multitool when they can get a kitchen knife for a couple of quid.

Lets be honest, the Police will not waste their time unless you are waving it about and causing a problem. If anyone would I'm kinda glad the law exists.

I think a lot factors on wat you are actually doing with the tool....:w00t:

Did you know that if a page of A4 300g paper is folded and holded in a certain way it can be just as lethal as a leatherman?????:thinking:

Unless of course they don’t like the look of you, or they need to keep up with the arrest quotas. And of course they wouldn’t use this as a excuse to get you on the DNA database
