They don't allow that offer as well as their 14% off for students with the Nano offer (that's when I called up last year).
#2
The year before that, I got both the 13% discount and the rebate. I even got away with it for two iMacs and two iPods! Try ringing them again now. I'm almost certain that they'll allow you.
#3
Nicely done! I may well do, it just depends on if I really need one, which I don't as I spent £1400 on my 2.4Ghz MacBook Pro (with AppleCare) earlier in the year!

However, yes, I may get a new iMac too. :D

The Free Nano is a bit of a trade off if purchased at the moment as if you wait until October all Macs will be shipped with the new Leopard OS which will be £100+

i was just wondering about leopard but if you get the nano til end of october then you may be lucky enough to get the new os! unless it gets put back again :-(

Lepoard is due to come out in October, so its very likely if you leave it late, you'll get the new OS. It's only £58 probably to upgrade to Lepoard anyway.

#8
Well Apple has to find some way to get rid of the massive pile of Nanos they have left over now they've launched the newer model.

The deal applies to the new ipod Nanos.

When has Mac OSX EVER cost even close to £100?

No reason you can't wait until October anyway, but may as well buy now so you can use it as soon as possible, then borrow or buy Leopard when it comes out and give it back or sell it on when you've installed it.
#11
How is it possible to get it for £601?

Thanks,
Ben

You have to be in full time education and tell them the college/university you are attending to get the discount.

Says at the bottom of the page:

Buy one qualifying Mac product and one qualifying iPod product from an Apple Retail Store or a participating Apple Store for Education site between September 12th, 2007, and October 30th, 2007, inclusive and receive a postal rebate of £85 (UK) / €130 (Ireland), excluding taxes and levies. Terms and Conditions apply (UK / Ireland).

So really don't you get £99.87 rebate (£85 + VAT)? :)
#14
To clear things up...

basic principle: buy ANY mac (except mac mini) and get £85 off an ipod. This £85 off is from the ex-VAT price. So essentially you can get the new iPod Nano 4GB for free or money off a more expensive ipod.

Fine details: Discount is via a rebate after purchase. So you end up paying for the mac and the ipod, and once you receive them you have to fill in the rebate form and send it back to Apple. Cheque will arrive within 4 weeks usually.

Education Discount: The general education store gives you 8% off mac purchases. The Higher Education Store, ONLY for university students, get 15-20% off all mac purchases. The general education store is accessible to everyone (http://www.apple.com/uk/education). The HE store is only accessible from a campus computer (http://www.apple.com/uk/education/he)

Both education discounts stack with the BackToSchool offer. So if you're a uni student, here's what you get:

15-20% off your mac
Free upgrade to 3 years warranty
£85 off an ipod
#15
You can get HE discount just by calling them up and stating where you're educated. They usually don't ask for proof, hint hint.

They are usually £99.95, that's what we paid for Panther.

To confirm can you use quidco as well as the HE apple store? If so how is this achieved: just the normal way?. Also is this basically

£100 off any ipod?
For example the price of the ipod classic excluding vat is
£132 -
£85 =
£47 +17.5% =
Total price including rebate - £55

Would this be correct? Thanks,

I can confirm you get quidco with apple using the HE store. Just click through normally from quidco, and navigate to the HE store from the apple website. I got £15 last month for ordering a macbook for my cousin, and have been hanging on until Leopard comes out to buy mine. Seems like I did the right thing :)
#19
If you are patient you can order this with Leopard as well as any order placed before the 30th of October will be honoured, and if Leopard is released on the 31st they won't have dispatched your order anyway so you will get Leopard...

has anyone managed to get free 3 year applecare thrown in? i always thought they sold it at a special discount price for students.....but free would be great

I work at a Further Education College and did buy a iMac the other week with my discount (End of August). However I sold the iMac as I now want the bigger screen one.

So can I ring up, buy a second iMac with my further education discount (Higher than the HE discount) and get a free iPod? :?
#22
I thought the FE discount was lower than than the HE discount...

You will need to check the terms for the FE Discount as the HE one only alows you to buy one imac per academic year...

just curious which Mac OS is it where you can switch between the MAC OS and Windows XP? is there such thing? lol thanks

All the latest Intel based Macs are capable of doing this with a product called Parallels.

http://arstechnica.com/journals/apple.ars/2006/6/19/4380

A recent addition to Parallels is a feature called Coherence. This allows the running of windows apps right on the Mac desktop, complete with the classic blue WinXP themed borders.

Just thought I'd say - If you are thinking about buying one it would be WELL worth the wait until Leopard comes out. It's the new Apple O/S and it's due to come out in October (probably late October but no date given - it's all running as planned though so won't be put back). It's also the biggest update to an O/S Apple have made and looks amazing - http://www.apple.com/uk/macosx/leopard/

Originally I was going to buy a new MacBook when I get my loan but I'm waiting for Leopard myself. MacBook with Leopard - Student Discount 15-20% - Free iPod Nano for the girlfriend - Free upgrade to 3 yrs warranty... can't go wrong!
#26
So what spec will you get for £601??? The website is really confusing.

Any news on whether or not any new MacBook Pro laptops are on the horizon?

I think they redid the MacBooks in June (not sure about the MacBook Pros)

There's an announcement by Apple UK on Sept 18th - I think that'll be the Leopard arrival date.

Although nothing's been announced, I'd hazard a guess at there being updates to coincide with the release of Leopard.

The retail apple stores don't give you free 3 years warranty. You have to pay £50+ to get it.

If you buy through the HE store ONLINE or by PHONE, you get upgraded to 3 years parts & labour warranty. Essentially the same with AppleCare except you only get 90 days software telephone support vs 1 year with AC.

There's two ways of using windows on a mac. One is through Bootcamp, a software provided by apple, which allows you to install a fully functional, maximum speed, copy of Windows XP or Vista on your mac. To switch between OSX and XP/Vista, all you do is to restart your computer.

The other way is by Parallels Desktop. This allows you to run XP/Vista from WITHIN OSX. However, as windows is "virtualized" it runs rather slow is has limited features.

Yet another way would be to use Crossover, a program for the mac that allows you to run simple windows programs almost natively in OSX. This is good for people who have maybe one or two small programs that only runs on windows that they need to use on an occasional basis.

Can someone please tell me what the spec of the laptop would be if i spent £601 on this deal?

Im looking at buying the new iMac and I have been waiting for this offer to start but do you think it is worth waiting for leopard?

So to confirm:
you get a free Ipod Nano, the new one?
quidco is eligible on the HE store.
and you get a free 3 year warranty

Are you sure that you get 15-20% discount. I'm studying at Central Lancashire, and my mate is at Salford both of us only get 12% discount on the HE store? Is there something I'm missing?

Thanks Andy

Parallels & Crossover both run Windows XP at blazingly fast speeds on Intel Macs. It was the old Virtual PC which ran emulated on Power PC Processors which was slow. The only problem with virtualization is that it has very poor 3D support so forget playing games for that use bootcamp, business apps etc run great under virtualization.

Yes, a new Nano.

Quidco IF you go through the site.

3 years parts and labour, not Applecare.

Call them up for the slightly higher discount, I think it's 14.1%, not 15 - 20%.

Just placed an order for the 20inch 2.4Ghz Imac :)

Went through online, and went with quidco, anybody know how long it takes to track roughly?

Thanks Andy

Go to the UK Apple store and look at the entry MacBook - non-superdrive and smaller HDD. Its the one I'll buy when I get one.

As these MacBooks are the last white products I guess they'll be cosmetically updated soon.

The graphics is the onboard GMA950 but in contrast to its use in the Mini its really quick in the MacBook.
