Just thought I would post this in case anyone was thinking of upgrading to the new machine by trading in a Fat PS3 or if any Xbox owners out there were thinking of switching.

I think I might updgrade as I only hve the 40gb and constantly run out of space, I know you can do your upgrade of a HDD but I like the look of the new one.

Here is what you pay based on what you trade in:

PS3 80/160gb - Half Price £125.00
PS3 40gb/Xbox 360 Elite - £139.99
Xbox 360 60gb Pro/Nintendo Wii - £149.99
Xbox 360 20gb (HDMI) - £169.99
Xbox 360 Arcade - £179.99
Xbox 360Core - £189.99
PS2 Slim - £224.99

You might be able to get better trade-in/cash fro some of the above, however for me on the 40gb PS3 I think this is the best I would get.

I think they are doing better p/ex deals at HMV
#2
dunno,surely a ps3 2nd hand is worth more than £125?
#3
Got to be the biggest con. What you spend £300 on a PS3 originally, trade it in to get £125 off a new one. That does the same thing. Is it really worth it??? I think not. I'll stick with my 60gb that plays PS2 games etc.

I vote game is conning with low trade price.
#4
unless you really need the space and REALLY like the look of the new one, its surely better to just upgrade the HD? mine is now 320gb at a cost of less than £50.

It was advertised outside my local HMV , I think it was px your old PS3 and about £85

#9
cex are doing trade in your 60gb ps3 for 198.99 so you get the ps3 slim for 50 quid and gamestation will price match to a pound more

Looks like I got it wrong on this one, just thought I would post in case it helped anyone, maybe this will be in the running for coldest post of the year if it continues at this rate!!!

Don't understand why peole have spammed it though, no need for that unless someone else has posted but I couldn't see it anywhere when I searched.

Thanks for that will pop down to my local store tomorrow, that sounds much more reasonable!!!

i just checked CEX, and they are offering £126 on a boxed 40Gb PS3, £144 on the 80Gb. Thats cash, not trade in - trade in is £157 and £180 respectively. and Gamestation will guarentee to beat that, so this really does seem like Game ripping off on trade ins.

That sounds good for 60gb (although I suppose some might be reluctant to give up backwards compatibility), are they doing anything for 40gb and if so do you know what the deal is??

I agree based on the info you have provided, I didn;t realise gamestation matched on console trade in, on this then that means it will cost me £92 which means with the other £50 quid I can get a game or two.

If you've got a 40 then isn't it better anyway? Backwards compatible and more USB ports?

Upgrade the HDD for less and have a far better box.
#16
Rule of thumb for p/e tends to be 1/4 of the rrp. Then doubled for resale.

Yep, that is what it says on their website if you follow the link and this beats CEX trade in value of £80.

Yes, you normally have to trade in whatever came standard with the console when purchased, not sure if they are bothered about the box as I have previously traded in boxless and they weren't bothered...but I guess it will depend on the store.

Well we were looking in Gamestation today and they were offering a 80 or 40gig trade in and get a slim for £116.99. So to be honest this "deal" is very poor indeed. Personally I dont see the point in swapping as the savings on electric use isnt worth it and if you have been putting up with all the space usage of the old model then why upgrade plus my 60gig models are worth a premium over any other models. So I don't see the point in trading up, if you can even call it that.

Well, the Wii trade in looks very good. Thanks to HUKD, I only paid £150 for it anyway, so I wouldn't be loosing anything if I trade it in... Tempted, but would then need to buy a HDTV too..!

In your circumstance you would be loosing £50 if you traded in your Wii, the PS3 is £249.99 and you would pay £149.99 so you only get £100 for your Wii. But £100 for a Wii trade in is good I think, it beats CEX by £20 as they are only offering £80.

I've got a semi-dead Wii (optical failure) - I wonder if I could get away with a trade-in...
