Okay, so this deal might not be clear-cut enough for everyone but the way I see it is that there is easily enough to be saved for me to put the deal out there...

So you can presently get a NUS Extra Card as a graduate seemingly without limits. More details are contained in the thread here, for which thanks go to Qaari:

Now the deal-maker is that you can use the NUS Extra Card with a Unirider from Stagecoach. In the first comment, I have posted an email exchange with Manchester's Stagecoach enquiries confirming the same.

This means that you can potentially get a year's worth of bus travel for in the region of £200* (£10.00 for the NUS Extra Card and £190.00 for the Unirider across Manchester, for example).

* The price of the Unirider does seem to vary based on location, and I'm not sure that the year's Unirider is available everywhere yet. I only know the Manchester area so will leave it to people to comment on their local area if they can. If not on sale already, I would imagine that the year's Unirider for that area would go on sale soon.

When I ordered mine I had to select 'Other' as my institution. If your NUS Extra Card hasn't arrived yet, you can simply let Stagecoach know this and can still proceed with your order. All in all, I came across no problems when ordering.

The Manchester Unirider runs from 1st September 2014 to 30 June 2015. That's 43 weeks. If you were to buy a standard Megarider at £13/week for that time it would cost £559.00, so a Unirider would save you £359.00 over the year. As I said, the figures vary across the various regions, but I'm sure that it would be a similar sort of saving that's possible.

This was very straight-forward for me. If you have any questions, please let me know!

Just to confirm, I used a NUS Extra Card for 2 years prior to posting this deal without a single issue whatsoever.

I'm not sure I understand what you're asking. Your discount is the ability to buy a Unirider which you otherwise wouldn't be able to

so you can use this on London red buses?

So do you need to be a student to use this? I'm staff but also have a NUS extra card.

To respond to a few of the comments...

I'm not sure of how this relates to London buses. I've only been using it in (Greater) Manchester, so that's the only region I can vouch for.

Yeah, the grammar of the reply was a bit... surprising considering that's their main port of call, but hey.

As for starting the email, "Dear Sirs", that's how emails are to be written so that's what I went for. Obviously it'll be G-Brom-da-Bomb now that me and Gina are obviously on excellent terms.

I think within London - students are able to get 50% travel with a student photo card available from any underground station...?

'Dear Sir/Madam' would probably have been better, but it doesn't really matter. :)

This sounded like a great deal, but not every area allows staff and students to use the unirider. I double-checked with Manchester Stagecoach who have said that in this area only students are allowed to buy it. Even though I've got an NUS Extra card as a staff member, I'm not sure I'll risk it even though it's a huge saving. Thanks for posting anyway so we can check it out for each area.
