Setanta have a poor reputation for unsubscribing - see http://www.iamlivid.com/2007/09/04/setanta-sports/ - but if you are up for a fight you can get a two-month subscription, incuding Christmas and New Year, for £1. Make sure you cancel before the two months are up or you'll be paying £12.99 a month. I used credit card rather than direct debit. And it's useful to buy today's Daily Mirror so you have the written evidence in front of you.
Click through from Quidco too for possible extra benefits. ;-)

If that's not a typo then that's just about the worst thing you could have done. At least with direct debit you can request a reversal from your bank, which they are obliged to do. Giving Setanta a credit/debit card number is a recipe for pain & anguish.

Dude - credit card is a bad idea. Once you set up a recurring payment with the card company you cant cancel it in the same way you can cancel a direct debit. My mate had the same problem, Setanta didn't acknowledge his cancellation letters and kept debiting his card and the card company couldn't stop it.

You could report your card lost/stolen but I'm not sure that would work - I lost my credit card yet a few moths later Play managed to charge a pre-order to the old card number that went through fine.

I'd check it out with your card company as soon as - forewarned being forearmed and all that

This man is talking sense, you are in for a world of trouble!
I tried canceling with Setanta for ages they even acknowledged it but just kept taking payments
& said they had no records of my calls.
Don't cause yourself the hassle & just steer clear of these cowboys, use sopcast :whistling:

OK, I've expired the deal based on the comments above.

Setanta are an absolute nightmare to deal with when it comes to cancellations. It took me 4 months to get them to cancel the subscription. Once bitten, forever shy.
#12
@ £1 I'm tempted and should know better - it's not exactly a secret how bad Setanta's CS is. :x

here is the listing of the live football matches on in December and January.

You would think so wouldn't you - the problem is when they dont acknowledge you and carry on taking money. If you do have to go for this then go by direct debit - that way you can fulfill your part of the T&Cs by emailing your notice of cancellation and cancelling with your bank. Under no circumstances give them a credit card or debit car dnumber

Dont forget quidco! Tracking at £15!!

i got stung last year by Setanta. CANCEL YOUR DD straight away after £1 has been taken.

still haven't got my money back off the wan***S, and I won't ever be using them again even if it was for free (ok maybe I would). if u ring up after the offer to cancel they will most probably offer you package for 1/2 price..
#16
direct debit is the way to go - write to the cancellation people in newcastle (google for addy) and cancel DD with the bank and jobs a good 'un :-D
#17
oh, and use recorded delivery for the letter....

Thought about the deal to watch Sunderland away at Man Utd, given the score against Bolton at moment, I think I'll throw me quid out the window instead! :x

Stay Away from this deal. Took this out laste Christmas. Took 5 months to cancel. They kept denying that they had recevied both my verbal and written cancellation. PLEASE DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY WITH THIS COMPANY.

Setanta let us cancel without any major problems, but made up for it by phoning several times a week asking us to come back afterwards.

I no longer subscribe to sky although I still have the box can I still get this deal ?

So long as you have a current Sky Viewing Card then, as you pay Setanta direct, not Sky, yes you can. However, do read the above points about cancellation and use of Direct Debit and stick strictly to what is suggested, avoiding use of credit card at all costs.

In my experience Setanta are a nightmare to deal with when it comes cancellation and the picture quality of the footie is appalling.

Guys, all you have to do is write to them recorded delivery and tell them you want to cancel. Then cancel the DD and you will be fine.
#24
I've always found them really, really easy to cancel.

Just to give it a bit of balance....
#25
For those brave enough to go with this deal you can now get Setanta on up to 5 other satellite boxes for free for the next 3 months and £2.99 per additional box per month on top of the normal Setanta subscription thereafter. Active Sky viewing card required for each box.

Good Luck!

If you have signed up and want to cancel at the end of your two months, you need to be aware that Setanta are actually offering a window of 10 to 15 days since sign-up in which to do this, rather than the 10 to 30 days printed in the Daily Mirror and on their website (below).

"Offer open to new UK customers only, via satellite or FreeviewTM, subject to status. Offer ends 5th December 2008. £1 registration fee applies. No subscription charge for first 2 months, £12.99 per month thereafter (for Satellite Customers). For Freeview Customers, no subscription charges for first 2 months, payment of £21.98 payable in advance for months 3 and 4, £10.99 per month thereafter. No annual contract. To cancel prior to the end of the first 2 months, write or email between the 10th and 30th days of your subscription (full details of how to cancel will be sent to you when you sign up). 30 day cancellation notice required thereafter. Offer only available on Setanta.com/offer or call 0871 200 7358 quoting code 2911. Offer requires FreeviewTM or satellite receiver or TV with CAM and slot and excludes Top Up TV+ and BT Vision boxes. Hardware requirements excluded from offer. Only Setanta Sports 1 is available via Freeview. For full terms and conditions, see Setanta.com/offer. The snotogram from a debt collection agency that I've just received today says otherwise. I cancelled in April....
