SAVE £100'S

From 28 October, Sony UK will offer customers ‘VAT Back’ across its product range in a move to help the nation save money on Christmas presents such as compact cameras, e-Readers and Blu-ray players, as well as larger purchases ahead of the forthcoming UK VAT rise in January.

For consumers to benefit from the offer the full price of the item is payable in-store then shoppers have until 31 January 2011 to claim the VAT cash back from Sony on purchases made between 28 October and 24 December. The scheme includes all 3D televisions and Blu-ray products, full high-definition AVC Handycams and selected digital cameras, Readers, VAIO netbooks and iPod docks.

... I hope they'll accept John Lewis online orders ...

It seems not, according to one of their customer service reps - I had to cancel an order and then re-order from my local JL store.

Did anyone else read that and laugh?

Waterstones pushed their ereader prices up £30 just as a coincidence today, hmmm! It'll just mean they'll sell less surely.

Not so - just got back from Dorchester branch and checkout guy said "160 please" - told him it was 130 online...let me check....oh yes no problem.

VAT form filled out and sent already.

Bargain

Correction - waterstones HAVE just put the price up....guess I got lucky :-)
Sun shines on a dogs a** somedays!

Apologies regarding my previous posts - it seems John Lewis Direct ARE NOT part of this promotion. I had originally ordered a Sony Bravia KDL37EX403U from JL online - but I phoned them to make sure that this deal was applicable and it is not! Only orders from JL stores are - so I've just placed an order from JL Reading and hope to pick it up on Saturday!

If you order from the store can you just ring them up & arrange free delivery? Wondering as I've been looking at one from there but my nearest store is 100miles away.

Has anything actually worked out less expensive than before the VAT reclaim/price rise other than that reader at waterstones for about 5 minutes.

Same here, nearest one in another county! But If I cancel now because I can't get money off then I may have to pay more from somewhere else anyway! Pretty stupid.
Who did you call to check who is doing it? 01379 649 999 is the promotion number but it's permanently busy for me.

I called John Lewis Direct on 01236 634444 and was told the Sony VAT Claim Back promotion did NOT apply to them!
EDIT It seems that John Lewis Direct DO now offer the VAT Claimback if you check their web site - IDIOTS!

If I purchased TV yesterday would have been £599
and today £699!!!!!!!!!!!

Send the receipt filled in by recorded delivery and WAIT for the VAT refund
This then brings it down to yesterdays price of £599.

Do BBC Watchdog know about this one?
The Biff Man#92

I bought the KDL-40EX503 LCD TV including the blu-ray player for £599 2 weeks ago from Comet and my friend got the same deal on Monday evening. Today it is £674.99 and no blu-ray! M&S are doing it today for £699 including the blu-ray.

OK bought the dual lens NEX-5 from Amazon lastnight for £600 for silver version. Black is available from Play for £590 but amazon customer service is better, plus am on the prime trial so free next day delivery.
kezlj20#96
Most retailers have increased the prices, richer sounds had the 40ex503 for £599 including free blue ray, offer has changed so the £599 is the price after vat back, you pay about £704 instore, not impressed been looking at this tv for a while, cheapelectricals have done the same http://www.cheapelectricals.co.uk/acatalog/Sony_KDL40EX503_40__Full_HD_1080__Wi-Fi_Ready__LCD_TV_Motionflow_100Hz__eco_features_kdl-40ex503.html
jim157#97
Hmm, I'm not that impressed either. Quite a few of these TV's are actually working out to be slightly more expensive than before. It's just an excuse for the retailers to put the prices back to RRP and dupe the customers with the 17.5% cashback.

Hi! can somebody confirm if this is available to Republic of Ireland residents? I live in the ROI but 15 mins away to Currys/PC world Londonderry, Northern Ireland. I would like to buy a SONY tv, but i'm not sure if they will grant my application as it states on the
Terms and conditions #3. Legal UK residents only.

1. The promoter of the VAT Cashback Promotion (the “Promotion”) is Sony UK and Ireland,...
How to Claim
...
3.
Legal UK residents
that purchased an eligible Sony product from an authorised Sony dealer/reseller located in the UK between
28 October 2010 and 24 December 2010 (inclusive) are entitled to submit a claim for their Cashback,...
....
8. The Cashback is only available on products which have been supplied and distributed by Sony to its
authorised dealers/resellers within the UK and Republic of Ireland
.

Why not just phone Sony and ask them. I did yo confirm details of a similar promotion a few months back and they were very helpful.
jameshuntearl#99
I can also confirm that both John Lewis and Argos and hiked the price of the kdl-37ex403 and the kdl-40ex403 since yesterday by the amount that you stand to get back with the sony vat back deal (or more). Very annoyed by this as I has just cancelled an order from John Lewis yesterday so i could benefit from the deal today!
johnnn#100
What a scam!

Yesterday JohnLewis were selling:

37EX403U @£450 (£382 when including vatback)
40EX403U @ £480 (£408 when including vatback)

However today the prices have rocketed to:

37EX403U @ £522 (£444 when including vatback)
40EX403U @ £584 (£497 when including vatback)

The consumer ends up paying the same or even more looks like a promotion dressed up a scam to dupe customers... It seems that John Lewis are not the only retailer to hike up prices today

JohnLewis say "Never Knowingly Undersold"
