After seeing the heat that http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/685275/tenda-5-port-10-100-switch-7-77-del received I looked into getting one and then came across these two swtiches. For what a switch is designed to do I have a feeling they will be great little bargains.

5 Port is £6.99 - http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/4-/12505672/GetNet-GS-115P-5-Port-10-100Mbps-Ethernet-Switch/Product.html

8 Port is £7.99 - http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/4-/12505605/GetNet-GS-118P-8-Port-10-100Mbps-Ethernet-Switch/Product.html

You can also get the 5 port switch for that price from 7dayshop with higher £back opportunities eg 2% at TopCashBack instead of perhaps 0.5% for Play electronics.
So that'd be an extra 10pence towards your PC upgrade fund (and a useful alternative if Play.com go out of stock.)

what do these do?

My router is upstairs I ran an Ethernet cable from the router to one of these downstairs to which I have connected 2 laptops and 2 desktop computers a Wii and a Joggler so that all now connected to the Internet:thumbsup:

Don’t forget you will use one of the ports for the router connection i.e. on the 5 port you will have 4 free ports, and on the 8 port 7 free ports

It basically expands your network so you can plug more stuff in.
e.g. if your router had only one output you would connect it into this and you would then have 4 or 7 (depending on which model you bought) extra outputs left.

However if all your PCs/Router/Network equipment is very up-to-date it may all be currently running at 1Gb (1000mbps) speed, in which case adding this into the network may slow things down.

just ordered the 8 port one to ensure I dont run out, only a little more.

Going to hook these upto some homeplugs, so i have an wired internet connection for my wii, 360, WDTV and iPlayer on my new Freesat HD box.

Hot! :)

Got my 8 port delivered today - neat touch of an on/off switch near the PSU cable tip!
Mine replaced a 5 port switch which had become full, and which will be recycled to friend.
No sophistication of eg different colour LED depending on 10 or 100 speed links.
Paperwork is copyright Edimax so don't know if getnet is a new 'popular/consumer' branding or not.
Incidentally the Play.com picture on the 8 page is of the (old?) 5 switch. I think recent 5's will look like a smaller 8 based on the 5/8/16 leaflet that came with my 8.

where website is "powered by Edimax"
I guess that association with Edimax, a player with some pedigree in the sector, gives extra comfort for these bargain switches.
