They heat up quickly, and don't leave that extra burned straightened look that you get with GHDs, they seem to condition your hair more, while leaving it a more naturally looking straight.
I only use them once a week or so when my hair seems out of control and it seems to last.
I've straightened my hair every day for the last 12 years and initially resisted spending the money on GHDs but this cost me in the long run.
I occasionally try out friends' new straighteners and nothing keeps my hair straight for more than a few hours except GHDs, if they get the kinks out at all.
I've had 3 sets over the last 8 years, not because they've broken, after a few years they just start taking longer to heat up.
