3DVD Set - Contains:

* Ghost In The Shell - Special Edition (Single Disc)
* Ghost In The Shell 2: Innocence - Double Disc Set

Two features. 'Ghost In The Shell' and 'Ghost In The Shell 2. 'Director Mamoru Oshii follows up his adaptation of Masamune Shirow's manga in the Anime film 'Ghost In The Shell 2: Innocence'. Similar in concept and theme to the cyberpunk classic 'Blade Runner', 'Ghost In The Shell' features a future where humans can modify their bodies with technology and live side-by-side with androids. A few years after the original film, police cyborg Bato is still mourning the loss of his partner Motoko. Bato and his new partner Togusa undertake an investigation of a series of seedy murders of wealthy men at the hands of their malfunctioning sex-androids. Expanding on the subject matter of the first film, their inquiry leads to a consideration of the true differences, if any, between humans and the artificial beings they create. 'Ghost In The Shell 2' combines action, philosophy, and breathtaking animated visuals and was nominated for the Palme d'Or at the 2004 Cannes Film Festival.

Although its 1p less at Amazon, £4.99 is a very good price for this set and you have the option to use Quidco, you have the hassle of making it up to £5 for free delivery @ AmazonAmazon

Ghost In The Shell - Special Edition: Mamoru Oshii's futuristic animated masterpiece Ghost In The Shell is the perfect film to experience on DVD. Seamlessly merging traditional cel animation with the latest computer graphic imagery, this stunning sci-fi spectacle has broken the boundaries of mainstream animation with its detailed artistic direction and uniquely intelligent story line.

Aided by an esoteric Kenji Kawai score, Ghost In The Shell took the world by storm in 1996, introducing a new wave of Japanese animation through its mesmerzing cinematic expression. A movie that questions our own human existence in the fast-paced world of the information age, this remarkable, award-winning, cyber-tech thriller has gone on to become one of the leading Japanese animation films of all time.

Ghost In The Shell 2 - Innocence: It is the year 2032 and Earth is a world where the few remaining humans coexist with cyborgs, human spirits inhabiting mechanized bodies, and dolls, robots with no human elements whatsoever. A cyborg detective for the government's covert anti-terrorist unit Public Security Section 9, Batou is charged with investigating the bizarre case of a malfunctioning gynoid - a hyper-realistic female robot created specifically for sexual companionship - responsible for slaughtering its owner.

Delving deeper and deeper into the investigation, Batou and his partner, Togusa, are forced to confront violent Yakuza thugs, devious hackers, influential government bureaucrats and powerful corporate criminals. As they move closer to uncovering the mystery, it slowly becomes apparent that the truth behind the crime is far more shocking than anyone dared imagine...

The first ever anime film to be nominated for the Cannes International Film Festival's highly prestigious Palme D'Or, Ghost In The Shell 2: Innocence is a breathtaking technical and visual achievement four years in the making. A work that is as equally groundbreaking as its predecessor, it seamlessly combines 2-D and 3-D CG animation techniques to produce an action-packed, sci-fi fable of a solitary cyborg struggling to retain what's left of his humanity in a world where the human soul is gradually fading into obscurity.

Inspired by the literary works of Phillip K. Dick and the surrealist art of Hans Bellmer, Ghost In The Shell 2: Innocence is a philosophical thrill-ride through the darkest regions of human - and inhuman - nature, combining full-throttle action, cutting-edge animation, and one of the most provocative storylines in recent memory.

The first magna I ever watched as a kid was Fist of the North Star. My mate got hold of this 18's cartoon and we wondered why the feck a cartoon was 18 cert? But after watching Kenshiro wipe fiends out with some uber finger punch and their heads exploding 10 seconds after getting wacked...we knew this was the schznet.

Its funny that you say that, my friends still gets mixed up between the two. Manga means comic in japanese but the same name is used for the company that makes anime, hence why the confusion. Anyways great films, have some heat :)

Jeeesis. As Hinch87 says, Manga is the EU/US distributor of a lot of anime.

Here's a bigger picture and look at the top....

Ha ha, well I obviously dont have a clue what im watching, but guess what it really doesn't matter and do you want to know why......Because its a good film / anime / manga / badger / crisp bag or what ever you feel is the correct thing to call it. You dont necessarily have to know what something is called to enjoy it. Although im sure my ghost in the shell is distributed by Manga entertainment, although it could be Disney, im so confused now.

Anyway my point in my original post was

Crazy, that was the first manga I watched too, I wish i'd kept my Manga VHS collection (got about 20 originals for £5 back in the day), I had a load of real gems, some, as far as I know, haven't even had a DVD release.

GITS 2 was beautiful in places with its blend of cgi and animation. However, it is the kind of thing were i had not a clue what the hell was going on, particularly on the bit which repeats itself with slight changes each time. Still, at £2.50 per movie you can always watch and sell on if you dont like em.
