Great deal for this well regarded bike:

2014 Giant Defy is the best road bike in countless magazine tests - including Cycling Plus Magazine's 2013 Best £1000 Bike and a Bicycling Magazine Editors' Choice Award. Brought to you by the world’s leading aluminium frame engineers, Defy redefines the performance possibilities of an entry-level road bike. Made from premium lightweight aluminium tubes and produced in Giant’s own tubing facility, it climbs, corners and sprints better than bikes costing thousands more.

Great price for a very good bike, I've got the defy 2 and love it, hot

Amazing. A great bike at full price so this is a bargain.

Can't Beat Giant for build quality.
#3
Lifetime frame warranty and a 10 year rigid fork warranty. Can't go wrong with that.
#5
Fantastic deal
#6
Now that's a deal! Nothing better in this price range! Hot

You could buy a car for this much! There you go I said it, someone had to!

Looks like a good deal, heat!

How heavy is this? Would it be a big improvement over the felt F95?
#10
I was recently looking at a Chris boardman the other day but this looks good and a lot cheaper.. heat added..

Giant try to never quote weights as it changes with each frame size and other variables, and they feel that often too much emphasis is placed on a figure that can be cheated by other companies........ but a couple of niche reviews and forums put it around 8.8-8.9 kilos
#12
Very, very tempted at this price. I have been MTB'ing for the last few years but have been banking after a road bike to replace a Trek I regretted selling. Thanks OP for giving me a sleepless night to ponder it.

Please don't get sucked into the weight game. The defy It is well appointed and very comfortable bike. I can't offer a comparison with the Felt, as I've no experience.

However I know someone who has won some Cat4 crits races on last years version of this Defy (different wheels I might add), so it is a very capable bike.
Assuming the gearing is right for you, this bike will be a great ride. But whether it is worth the upgrade, only a test ride will tell.

The best way to shave a few kg off a bike is to lose a couple from your waist
#15
Bargain, I've got the 2013 version of this and it's a great machine. Great price!
#16
Yeah don't worry about weight it will be light enough! More importantly it has good components, way better than the felt, but it is alot more money,i know what id go for but depends on your budget :-)
#17
That's a cracking deal.

If I didn't have a 2013 Defy 2 'and' a 2014 Planet X RT-58, I'd be all over this. Giant Defy is a fantastic bike, if you can afford it - get it sharpish! I even thought about buying this then selling my Defy 2. Want it, want it - don't need it!!!!!
#20
My defy advanced SL is a lovely ride. ..be aware cycling can be very expensive if you catch the bug. .. like I have!
#21
Pound for pound best bike deal here. :) weighs about 8.8kg I think. I have the 2012 version with upgraded wheels. Love the bike, absorbs the london pot roads very well, runs smooth. Great bargain at this price.
#22
I borrowed a Caad8 a few weeks ago and found it very comfortable.
Will this be comfortable to ride also?

Thanks.
#23
Definitely comfortable... Will not regret it.

How do you like the planet x bike? I'm tempted to build a bike up using that frame

I am currently using a second hand Carrera Virtuoso.

Was thinking about upgrading to the Felt F95, but this is almost twice the price :(

I can't really warrant spending £699. My friend suggested getting a second hand bike, as you get more bang for your buck. But really I'm a novice and am not sure what I am looking at :(

Lots of lovely Shimano 105 in there and then ruin it with a Tiagra cassette.

The next best thing is to pick up a new bike in the sales (like this one).
Work with your budget, this is a deal, but I am sure there will be others. The difference over the £300 Carrera Virtuoso will be noticeable.

FYI, Giant release their 2015 range on 13th August 2014, which is why you are seeing deals on Giants at the moment.

Well my current Giant runs a mixture of 105 and Ultegra, so I'm more than content with it currently.

Get the Felt don't make the n00b mistake of paying more gets you more when you haven't got the basics down. I've done it many a time and the extra cost wasn't worth it, as I just wasn't getting value for money. The Felt is a great bike from what I can see, start there, if you like it, try some upgrades on it, then move on to something like this, there will always be bikes and there will always be bike deals.

You won't regret buying the felt. This is expensive, Giant are expensive.

This is expensive, Giant are expensive.

Expensive implies that it's over-priced. This definitely is not over-priced.

£999 for an alu bike with 105 is expensive. The deal is good but Giant are generally expensive.

Isn't £999? what. This was reviewed by many bike sources as the best road bike for under a grand last year. I used my cycle to work budget accordingly and paid full price. It has been without doubt been a fantastic bike - just returned from a tour of holland and Belgium and can happily say it didn't miss a beat. At £699 this is a real bargain.

For sure you can get low end carbons cheaper and other brands with similar spec but this all round package shouldn't be dismissed -especially at this hot price.
