If I'm not mistaken isn't this card four times as powerful as a PS4? I was considering this GPU for my Steam PC

Hot, was happy getting my Asus Strix for £271, this probably beats it value for money, MSI, Gigabyte or Asus is the way to go for build quality so if you're looking for a 970 this is a good choice.

Dabs.com, £25 off £400 spend, bought it together with an Asus Z97-A so the card was £297 and the mobo was £100 (bought an anti static wrist strap to push over 400).

Then, the frame rate is simply unlocked with the config file. Yes, that simple.

What's the difference between this and the G1 Gaming version? Is it just the lack of backplate and a slightly lower OC?
#10
Flubit is making offers based on ebuyer till January. worth a punt.

Flubit is saying no, it is the best price apparently so they won't make it any lower, has anyone else managed to make it go lower?

The G1 is guaranteed to clock much higher, for example mine clocks to 1500MHz which is classed as 'average'.

It's kind of like a cherry picked GPU.

I disagree. The G1 is not "guaranteed" to overclock any better than any other GTX 970. However, it may have a better chance of reaching high overclocks due to premium components.

At the end of the day it is a silicon/PCB/VRAM/VRM lottery whichever card you chose.

This is hot for a 970 with a very decent cooler.

Sorry but I wouldn't say the ASUS Strix is worth purchasing for most people due to having a locked voltage controller.

Most are usually unlockable to a higher FPS either officially or unofficially.

I was a big Asus fan long ago but I've had nothing but failures with their products in recent years, also their warranty and customer service are catastrophically abysmal... overrated and overpriced brand these days IMO.

Mine gets to 1540mhz without an issue, its more to do with the Silicone lottery, voltage control doesn't really matter, at least on the new 9 series.

Worth noting that Overclockers.co.uk say they 'price match' on the Nvidia 900 series.

Very true. OCs are never, ever guaranteed.

I think you'll find it isn't as it depends how the game has been coded

About to buy a 970, which version should I get? There are so many it's difficult to know. Lowest temperature is a priority, not fussed about noise level etc

My Need For Speed Rivals runs above 30FPS, like I said, unofficial fix. It's real simple. Here is the start parameter:

-GameTime.MaxSimFps 60 -GameTime.ForceSimRate 60+

These boards should start telling you what version of HDMI their on. hdmi 2 will achieve 60hz whilst 1.4 only 30hz on a 4k screen. Not so important on a cheap card but on a more expensive card it would future proof it.

Hi,

Just a noob question... power requirements say 550W... if that is how much just this draws, how much more do you need to power the rest of the components? Will you need a 800W PSU?

A 500w PSU would be fine for this card with the rest of the components as well.

Why would I when the likes of eBuyer, CCL, Novatech and Amazon offer it for free? Dabs charge but it's only 99p for an item like this.

Should i buy this card or wait for the MSI 970 to go down in price. (also waiting on a flubit offer for msi 970)

Which card is better. (less coil whine, better power usage e.t.c)

550w should cover everything. The actual card draws about 150w I think

What? How do you figure?

This 970 can play games at 4k resolution while the PS4 can barely manage 1080p.

You say it will cost 4 times? I don't think so. You can build a gaming rig for under 600 that includes this card. That's double the cost for a rig that is MUCH more versatile and strong.

Anyway, let's not forget the real reason to skip consoles... The cost of games is easily double the cost. What you save on initial hardware is made up for in software and proprietary hardware additions.

Heat! Just ordered. I want to sell the game with the card. I think it is code and hard to trade in Cex?
