Ok its pixmania, and we all know that they have a fantastic fan base, but even for the most hard core haters of this French company this is a cracking deal on an R9 290X! I think gigabyte have a UK based support centre so if it needs an RMA deal with them direct.

Its a reference design so turn up the fan speed to about 60-80% when gaming to keep it cool. Yes it will ramp up the fan noise but at least you know the fans are working! Not recommended for small form factor or cramped pcs. If you have a decent case with sufficient room between components, and good airflow it will be fine.

Amazon price match? Who knows but I wouldn't be surprised.

Offer: £7 off for all orders over £200. Code: PIXUKJUN7 - Très bon!

Now if we can all get Amazon to price match then everyone can buy with confidence! Here's the Amazon link:

Under Feedback click 'tell us about a lower price' then sign into your amazon account and fill in the form. Now keep a watchful eye on the price.

It's not that anyone necessarily hates the French, it's more just that Pixmania have a well-established track record of ripping people off, and being based in France only helps protect them from recourse. If they don't send your product to you and keep your money, what are you going to do about it?

Well said. Pixmania are awful. Anyone who does business with them needs their head examined.

They might be awful but Amazon price match them all of the time

Good deal on the face of it, but the reference cooler is absolutely abysmal. Unless you live at the North Pole or inside a wind tunnel, you're either going to be dealing with the card throttling or a truly absurd amount of fan noise. Add in the Pixmania factor and you'd be nuts to buy this IMO.

I've had bad experiences at other retailers but not pixmania (including a recent r9 280 purchase) - I understand others have had the opposite experience. From what I have read you can get stung anywhere so just read up on your consumer rights and the returns process before you buy online, full stop.

Read the Trust pilot reviews for John Lewis as a good example...

Man.. looking forward to the 800 geforce series coming up, I can feel a huge price war heading our way

it's weird how I want to buy this, yet my 670 obliterates everything at 1080p. suppose this would be good for when the rift is out?

It's an external exhaust model so it should fare better in smaller/cramped PCs than their fancy tri-fan windforce cooler would. Bloody loud though.

Its more to do with the heat that's generated from the graphics card potentially heating up components close by, personally I would choose not to install this card in a cramped case.

No way would I buy this with that cooler its awful I have heard one in use and its way too loud it also causes the card to down clock my msi gaming r9 290 is faster then a reference r9 290x.

Good price for a ref 290x, for people who dont want to use pixmania, you could always try and use amazon price match.

Not sure how long it takes amazon to price match but its always worth a try. Still pixmania deserve some praise for this cracking price, its the cheapest 290x currently available. Second hand on ebay these reference (mined lol) cards are selling for about £200+

It's not about whether the 580 will last, it's whether your urge to upgrade can be contained or not ;)

delusion, you just don't get it. Pay attention to other posts on Pixmania threads and note the general experiences people have with Pixmania. They are based in FRANCE. Should you require to chase them on the contractual obligations , they will renage on their responsibilities, leaving you little options. What I mean is, have you ever tried to take a small claim against a French company, with no trading base in the uk? Does this make it any clearer for you? Might stop you prattling on about John Lewis every five minutes.

That's A Fantastic Price, I bought My R9 290 for £200 just last month, and I thought that was a great deal, But This Is Ridiculously Cheap
#21
This is a fantastic price, grab a £45 Raijintek Morpheus and fans of your choice and you never have to worry about that awful stock cooler. Or look at a water cooling bracket, for this price you'd be stupid to pass it up.

Pix may be awful but once its bought it not like you ever have to deal with them again, especially as this is a Gigabyte card... one of the only companies to have a UK RMA so win win. If only this would fit in my build!

Just bought a 290x powercolor PCs+ card for £360 not sure whether to be annoyed seems as its reference.
#23
Theres a reason this card is cheap....once the dual/triple fan jobbies were released you couldnt give these away!

Pixmania are a joke.....paid for a monitor and after waiting a week i phoned them to see where it was, and they said they werent in stock?.....so i asked for my money back and it took me 6 weeks and a hefty phone bill to get my money back.

An Oculus staff member said a GTX 770 is minimum for a decent experience on the DK2, I think he was referring to more demanding games like Elite dangerous and UE4 demos. I plan to upgrade my GTX 660 to a GTX 770 for DK2.

AMD and Intel are working on hardware made for VR for CV1, so buying a high range card for CV1 now wouldn't be advisable.

Would this be OK in an Antec Fusion (htpc) case you reckon?

Sometimes getting a reference cooler is better - if you plan on water cooling in the future. I bought 2 non reference cards in the past only to find you cannot get a watercooling block for them.
#27

I never understood why people make videos of fan noise. Surely it's impossible to tell how loud it is from the video because it depends on the input levels of the source microphone? Unless you have another video of a different cooler for comparison, recorded with the same microphone/levels/distance, it's of no value.

Good price for a powerful card but...
- 330 watts in game
- Too noisy
- Too hot (95C)

just buy a PS4 instead..............

I can't believe people still bother spending silly money on PC gaming rigs, especially when this card could potentially be an old model in a few months. I was a PC gamer but converted to consoles when the xbox 360 first came out. It's probably saved me thousands of wasted money on upgrades over the years. No need to wait ages longer for games to be released for PC. Would rather spend a bit more and just buy a ps4 instead of this and not spend my life worrying about system requirements.
#39
people waiting for the 800 series, around December before full availability..

i wouldn't be able to hold off that long
#40
The ps4 is an old model. Most PC gamers don't upgrade every year, maybe every 2-3 years or even longer. The 290x will last a long time, and that's great value.
